The Hardest Job in the World
"Mom"

The training is minimal, and without standards.

Entry into the field is easy, and more often than many admit, accidental.

Monetary rewards are non existent.

You struggle if you have a partner in the endeavor. It can be overwhelming if it is undertaken alone.

And yet, Moms just keep on keepin' on.

The little beings (who all too quickly grow into full size beings with full size problems) test you .... constantly. It might be to move them from your familial bad circumstances and financial struggles to a better life. You sacrifice so they can be better than you. Then there's the 'good' little ones who fall prey to drugs and test you to your very core. Tough love and heartbreak.

These little ones, the very presence of whom bestow upon you the title of "Mom" are extraordinarily complex. And yet they come with no manual, no instructions, no care and feeding guide. I mean, even that potted tulip you just got this morning has more instructions with it.

And yet, somehow, you do it. You manage. You break through. For every two steps seemingly backward, you manage to take three forward.

And at each step, from their first to your last, you take joy in the simplest of things. The potholder made by tiny hands at school. The "A" in sophomore English. The engagement to such a wonderful future partner. The grandchildren.

You represent the epitome of altruistic love.

You're a Mom.

And where would we *ever* be without you?

To all the Moms.

We are eternally grateful.

7. That's so sweet Husb2Sparkly! Last week my son said to me, "Mike and I were talking about how lucky
he and I are (Mike's his friend). We think you and his mom are 2 of the COOLEST and GREATEST moms we know." I wanted to CRY! From the mouth of a 14 year old boy? That was the most amazing thing my son could ever have said to me.:loveya: and was THE BEST early Mother's Day Gift I could ever ask for. I love being his mom.:)

Thank you for this post. It's so heartwarming.

8. this is beautiful
I often joke that if I had it to do over again, I would have stopped with my pets and not had kids. Their love is unconditional. I say this just in jest though, as I have (a mooody) 16 year old. My oldest just turned 21 and she is starting to turn into a fine human being.

9. What about us Mr. Moms?
Edited on Sun May-13-07 09:27 PM by RC
I raised two girls from the ages of 3 & 5 mostly by myself. Both turned out fine. They are both on their own, working and going to NDSU.
