FL Senate: Meek still struggling..
From Miami Herald..

Up early Sunday for a 12-hour campaign marathon through South Florida, Democrat Senate candidate Kendrick Meek said he saw three commercials for his deep-pocketed rival before he could even get out the door. It's been that kind of hard-knocks campaign for Meek, who got into the race 18 long months ago, before any other major candidate.

Who would have expected what happened next? Marco Rubio became a Republican phenomenon, Gov. Charlie Crist reinvented himself as an independent, and a little-known Palm Beach billionaire named Jeff Greene became a Democratic contender.

/--/

"All of a sudden Kendrick had to pivot and ask for the support of people he thought he could have counted on," said Democratic fundraiser and developer Stephen Bittel, who came to Meek's appearance in Aventura to show his support.

As for Greene, he makes no apologies for his short-time record as a registered Democrat and full-time resident of Florida only since 2008. He blew off chances to meet with gay, Hispanic, Haitian and student activists at Saturday's state party gathering in Hollywood and only decided to drop by the black caucus at the last minute.

Does not look good for Mr Meek even though Greene appears to be a total fake and just trying to buy the nomination.

2. Why would the republicans bother unless they think a Democratic challenger could hurt Crist.
No Democrat in this race hurts Republicans not help them.

The Republicans need a strong democrat candidate so they can win...

3. Its possible. They are desperate to win this. Potentially losing to Crist just irks them to no end.
If Greene wins he could have a high-profile visible platform to bash Crist and help Rubio. I never really thought of that, but its entirely possible.

4. It's really the only reason the Democrats should do to the Republicans
What the Republicans did to the Democrats so many years ago in that
lieberman third [party senate race.

8. I wish he was.
Unfortunately he is a very typical FL democratic candidate. Our FL legislature is FULL of dem politicians like Greene.

9. I live in Tampa/St Pete and have not seen *ONE* ad for Meek onTV.
NOt one ad in the paper.

I'm inundated with Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, that other republican guy....I see/read their ads all the time.

And this area, for Fl, is pretty purple/blue. Lots of Obama, ACLU, stop the war type bumper stickers.

Not a single ad, though.

why? Why not?

10. He hasn't spent any money on TV yet
I'm perplexed, too

And today Greene has started to run Anti-Meek ads. Not sure why.

11. With a race this tight and with as little name recognition as he has, I don't understand why
he hasn't run any ads.

At this point it's going to be Rubio vs Christ. Meeks has waited too long to advertise himself, despite being one of the earliest in the race.

People I work with--very liberal MD's and RN's think that Christ is the democratic nominee. They have *no* idea who Meeks is.NOne. Never heard the name. I've had to pull up websites to show them that Christ is running as an Indepenent and that Meeks is the Dem running....they have no idea who the guy is. Then once I point that out, they're like "Well, what's he stand for? where is he? why doesn't he campaign? what are his issues?"

He's going to lose, and he's going to lose badly because *HE* is not putting himself out there. In a race like this, where what, like 80% of Florida dems say they're going to vote for Christ, he needs to have his face PLASTERED on the TV. Billboards, signs, the works.

But he hasn't.

Is he another Alvin Greene? I really don't know enough about the man to say. He certainly hasn't made it easy for people to know about him, get involved with his campaign, or get excited about voting for him.

12. Probably because he (Meek) doesn't have any money.
And apparently the Florida Democratic party is (not so) secretly backing Crist. So there you go.

13. What a dismal choice! Jeff Greene or Marco Rubio: the crook and the fascist.
This may explain why Crist is doing better in the polls.
