There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Can we please do something about it ALREADY?

We're still too comfortable ... and we're not throwing oour bodies on the spears. We dismiss and demean any notion of relieving our military personnel - our children and neighbors - of the narrow burden that they so onerously bear. We engage in the elitism of 'opinion' and the effetism of 'party' and abandon the duties of a self-governaing democracy. We watched, but did not march or riot, when SCOTUS hijacked the election in December 2000. We have not engaged in massive civil disobedience, risking our own life and limb, to give the fullest meassure of opposition to the corruption of our governance. We sit back and accommodate the specious notion that party is more important than bringing criminals to justice, first by impeachment and then by imprisonment - giving up before even making the maximum effort.

We (I include MYSELF) spout the rhetoric but don't throw ourselves into the "gears of the machine" ... holding out some vanishingly small hope that "it's not that bad" or that "someone else will do it for us." Mario died ... and so has our deservedness of a democracy.
