Dr. Laura to G.I. wives: No whining
At Fort Douglas, radio host says 'warriors need warrior wives'

By Matthew D. LaPlante
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 05/12/2007 01:31:40 AM MDT

Raging radio human relations guru Laura Schlessinger, in Salt Lake City on Friday to speak to Army families at Fort Douglas, said she was tired of hearing the complaints of lonely and overwhelmed military wives whose husbands are deployed.

"He could come back without arms, legs or eyeballs, and you're bitching?" Schlessinger asked before taking the stage at the base theater to host her daily program on ethics, morals and values. "You're not dodging bullets, so I don't want to hear any whining - that's my message to them."

Schlessinger boasted that she once talked a young woman out of marrying a soldier, noting that "warriors need warrior wives" and that she felt the girl was unprepared.
"It's very unwise to be married young when you're going to be alone - everybody has to grow up first to know who they are," said Schlessinger, whose own first marriage ended in divorce.

Schlessinger, whose soldier son Deryk is in the Army, railed against Congress, saying that her son's tour of duty overseas - she declined to say where he is stationed, noting that would put him at risk "like Prince Harry" - had been extended because of recent arguments over war funding.

The delusion that her son would be at special risk --- isn't that whining?

2. What about the women who are in Iraq serving this country?
Sexist bitch talks as if there are none.

This kind of stuff makes me sick no matter where it comes from. It's such a primitive view of humanity.

21. She knows that there are women serving
She just declined to comment on them. Apparently, they do not deserve the same praise as men who leave their families to serve.

I also loved the fact that she compared her son to Prince Harry. She definitely has overestimated her importance to the world.

3. It's whining only when it doesn't pertain to a person personally.
Then it's circumstantial malfeasance.

Which is why I can never get a date. :P

Did she do her nudie photography before or after she grew up? All that hair suggests 'after'...

Such a fine woman, Dr. Laura! Couldn't be bothered to even call someone to check on mom regularly!

She is SUCH A FRAUD!

Happy Mother's Day, Dr. Laura. Hope yer mom haunts you every step for the rest of your miserable life.

it was extended because we don't have enough troops for the job and Bush won't institute a draft.

6. Her kid is "overseas" but she DECLINES to say where he is stationed, eh?
What, is he at risk from the bargirls of Japan or Korea, or the autobahn drivers in Germany? Or maybe he'll choke on a piece of undercooked farfalle in Aviano? Those tour extensions are happening worldwide, not just in Iraq and the Stan. They reduce military spending by chopping the PCS budget down to nothing, freeing up money to be used to maintain basic services in other areas (the PCS/travel budgets are worked out a year in advance). Everyone just sits tight, no household goods are moved, no airplane seats purchased, no orders cut, no fuel expended or personnel paid for "Freedom Bird" contract flights. It's not an uncommon practice; anyone who's done a good deal of time in the military has seen it happen.

http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=53138&archive=true

This prowar clown http://gojackarmy.blogspot.com/2005/04/dr-lauras-son-to-join-special-forces.html says the kid was going to join Special Forces, but that was back in 05, and his link to ABC News, where he says he got the info, no longer works. Did the kid wash out, is that why she 'decines to state?' Hell, we knew Tillman was in Afghanistan, what's the big secret? Unless he's defending democracy from, say, the beaches of Hawaii or the mean streets of Brussels, Belgium? Or parked in the "close enough for government work" safety of places like Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and so forth?

Quite frankly, if military SPOUSES (stupid fuck doesn't realize that men are left behind when women deploy, as well--that "wives" business is so mid-20th century) choose not to listen to this dipshit, they're smart and better off. This is the asshole who posed naked for her married boyfriend, didn't call her mother for eons and Mom was found dead (for quite awhile, too) and she's once again playing the "scold" and telling people how to behave? What absolute horseshit!

Her kid might very well have joined the military to GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER. Hell, I find that scenario all too plausible, frankly. Imagine what life must be like, when taking a chance on going to IRAQ is preferable to your home life with Mommy Dearest? Sheeeeeesh!!!!!

11. Anybody who think soldiers don't "whine" has never been in the military.
Of course, we called it "bitching and moaning" but it was the favorite pastime of all involved in the sheer idiocy of the military. And, we didn't use terms like "Oh, dear" or, "How troublesome", when doing our "whining".

19. This woman is lecturing on ethics?
If she's so tired of hearing military spouses complain, has she considered helping them? Starting a support group? Arranging for child care? Finding a way to honor their sacrifices?

No, it's so much easier to run her nasty little mouth. With people like this "supporting the troops" is it any wonder morale is in the toilet?

Happy Mother's Day, Laura. Now STFU. That goes for the "other" Laura, too.

25. This from the biggest whiner of them all?
She needs to stop and think about what she is saying to military families. Right or wrong, they sacrifice so much for this country. The least she could do is respect them and their families. They all deserve respect for being our first line of defense against the real threats to our democracy and for the huge sacrifices they make. How dare she? Who the hell does she think she is?

26. She's just unreal. She has no idea what it's like to be a military wife

and therefore no business telling military wives how they should behave. They are all quite aware that their husbands could be killed or horribly maimed in Iraq or Afghanistan but they have problems of their own as well and a right to be upset about their problems, which are magnified by the knowledge of what could happen to their husbands.

And then she complains about her son's tour of duty being extended? Hypocrisy never ends with her, does it?

29. a delusional statement from the article
"And she praised fathers who have the courage to leave their families to fight for the nation. "When you're in the military, that comes first," Schlessinger said.
"You don't want to not have gone and find out your wife has to wear a burka."

Trust me on this - military spouses don't care what non-military spouses think of us

it's real simple - don't live the life? then you don't know what you're talking about and your opinion of us is worth what? NOTHING

33. So, after saying this to a roomful of Army families, how is it no one clocked her:
The radio host said she hoped to help military families through their troubles during wartime.
"People listen to me," she said. "I'm trusted and respected."

She's such a waste of oxygen.

34. She is a waste - and maybe they didn't clock her because
"they" felt she was talking about other spouses and not them (denial and all that)

The biggest complainers about the so-called whiners are those who actually do whine :)

Fact is, some military spouses DO whine about the silliest shit...but so? Sometimes the silly shit is easier to complain about than it is to confront what's really bothering you...which I've found to be the case since deployments for Bush's wars began...a whole lot of sock in the floor issues

I'd like to see her try and tell my sister in law not to "whine". She's 6 months pregnant, caring for 5 children under the age of 12. Her husband (my brother) was retired from the navy for ten years and was forced back for a year tour in the middle east early this year.

'Doctor" Laura can shove her opinions right up her ......

35. I grew up as an AF brat...
and was in the USAR and she is right about one thing....it does take a certain type of person to a military spouse. It is so hard. You have to be independent and self sufficient. Kids can't really understand. You really can't whine to your spouse-they are in a war zone and don't need the distractions.

But you can raise 7 kinds of hell with your government as far as I am concerned. The military know how much weight spouses opinions carry. And they need to treat the soldiers family well. It is the least they can do.
