The Republicans are screwed! Dems jump ahead in new poll
Democrats have taken a significant lead over Republicans in the latest congressional Gallup Poll:

Democrats pulled ahead of Republicans, 49% to 43%, in voters' generic ballot preferences for the 2010 congressional elections. The Democrats' six-point advantage in Gallup Daily interviewing from July 12-18 represents the first statistically significant lead for that party's candidates since Gallup began weekly tracking of this measure in March.

It's just one poll, but it's a big jump and it makes sense in light of last week's events. In a strong economy, conservative scapegoating of the millions of Americans laid-off might work. But with record, long term unemployment, most voters know someone whose job prospects and finances are desperate to grim. In that environment, protecting the Bush's tax cuts for the super-wealthy and obstructing critical unemployment benefits for the desperate just might be coming home to roost for the GOP. Not to mention, conservatives lecturing the nation about debt is like Bristol Palin lecturing nuns about birth control.

More discussion in deaniac83's diary.

Blocking unemployment benefits will be their downfall!

Get ready for a new term. VENGEANCE VOTERS!

2. That's what calling the unemployed lazy and banksters pillars of society gets them
That's what calling the unemployed lazy and Wall Street banksters* pillars of society gets them.

I have been saying all along that the GOP will be held to modest gains in November.

*Not to mention health insurance CEOs producers and they even have the nerve to call corporations persons.

There's the apology to BP, there's the passage of FinReg, there's the capping of the well and there's Obama going on the offensive attacking Repubs and more....

Let's hope Repubs have reached their apex and that we are going to see Dems go on the offensive from here on out.

5. Let's not get ahead of ourselves we still have to
get those that say they are not voting to vote.

We cannot take anything for granted.

I would like to see the Republicans crushed so the administration can get more work done on behalf of the American people.

7. True enough
But for the folks who are discouraged by the popular media's constant reporting that the Republicans are going to take over both chambers of Congress and the White House this year, this can be seen as positive news.

Lots of hard work still needs to be done. But there will almost certainly be a reward. Don't give up. Don't be discouraged. The Republicans aren't going to gain control in either the House or the Senate, and despite the alarmist nonsense peddled by people who want to sell air time or newspaper copy, the GOP isn't taking over the White House any time soon, either.

It's a puzzlement to watch the Today Show give time to Newt Gingrich, failed brother, husband and politician, but neither NBC nor Newt control this country. We do.

12. Read the rest of the Poll.
Thirty-nine percent of independents favor the Democratic candidate in their district, up from 34% -- although slightly more, 43%, still favor the Republican.

We're still behind but getting closer.

The 51% of Republicans saying they are "very enthusiastic" about voting this fall is up from 40% the week prior, and is the highest since early April -- shortly after passage of healthcare reform. Democratic enthusiasm is unchanged, at 28%.

Republicans are still far more energized than the Democrats.

Now, put the cork back in the champaign bottle and get back to work!
