15. Just to clarify for American viewers
Cameron isn't being patronising here, he just really wants to come across as Obama's friend.

17. O referred to the PM as 'David' during his speech, so maybe they're really on
a first name basis and genuinely like each other. This doesn't discount the fact that, as malaise said, 'David' is a pretentious git.

19. If they are that makes me think less of Obama
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 01:19 PM by miscsoc
Maybe it's true, though, since he seems to be buddies with Blair, whose political career is similarly based on bullshit public schoolboy faux charm.

29. The 'reporters' on MSNBC said Obama wasn't buddies with Blair, that they
never 'connected'.

You'd actually think less of Obama just if he genuinely liked someone? Yikes! Maybe they're just simpatico because they're both young guys with young families, that they have something in common?

Nobody actually knows except Obama and Cameron, and neither of them are likely to give me the inside scoop. :7

40. I'd think less if he genuinely liked David Cameron!
I'm still sure they said Brown, or meant Brown, since Blair resigned as prime minister long before Obama was elected.

5. He just called the President "Barack."
Yeah, I know that's his name but it just sounded really casual for a joint presser between two of the most powerful people on earth.

9. Thank you for hosting me, Barack. Seems a very informal closing comment. He's using it almost
in a demeaning way, but maybe he thinks it's just friendly.

20. BTW Megrahi's release was legitimately humanitarian
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 01:24 PM by miscsoc
And he probably didn't do it anyway.

I'm a member of the Scottish governing party that released him, btw. Criminal justice is entirely devolved to Scotland, and Labour and the SNP are enemies. If anyone has evidence of corruption on the part of the Scottish administration which had total responsibility for criminal justice I'm eager to hear of it, and I'd like to see anyone involved expelled from the party.

shortly after his release merely an astonishing coincidence?

21. Gotta give Cameron this -- he's straightforward (or comes across that way) and
doesn't seem to be engaging in the political tap dancing in an attempt to not answer the questions. I'm warming to him. :)

The MSNBC people were saying Obama really seems to have a relationship with Cameron, as opposed to Blair with whom "he never really connected". Cameron IS much more personable.

38. Growing up in the Caribbean among the Brits and being
on the cricket circuit exposes you to them - there's that public school arrogance with the sense of superiority, but there is very little that is genuine. After a while you see right through them. Christopher Hitchens is a classic example and don't even mention Blair.
