Very interesting calls this morning on WJ about Elizabeth Warren's nomination
For those who who aren't aware of it Elizabeth Warren is one of several people who may be called on to lead up consumer protection in the banking industry. Her nomination was the subject on one of this morning's (7/20) call-in segments. It was amazing to hear Republicans, Independents, as well as Democrats calling to sing praises to her - it was nearly universal. And that got me to thinking; here were normal political junkie Republicans whole heartedly supporting a Democrat who was nominated to a high post. One Republican went so far as to say he wished there were 50 more just like her. I agreed.

So, if rank and file Republicans can be reasonable, and recognize the value of a person in office of the other Party and fully support what she might be expected to do based on her sterling reputation, it should tell us something. It should tell us that it is a fool's dream that Republicans will take back either chamber of the Congress this fall.

2. I would certainly consider it very telling if he did not appoint her, and not good for him.

5. What I do find encouraging is that Warren has support on both sides
of the political spectrum.

9. He already has shown his true colors several times, and I would bet
you cash money that Warren does not receive his nomination.

4. Even Joe Scarborough welcomes her warmly on MJ. The whole crew loves her.
Mika oohs and ahs. She's great...and she does her thing beautifully at 6 a.m. sometimes on that show...I don't know how she does it...
and what a difference between her and Maria Bartiroma (ugh).

8. Single issue?
Litmus test?
Last Straw?

Kinda wondering how you got to such a claim, and how quickly.

12. speaking for myself the "last straw" isn't far out of sight
From what I've seen the Obama Administration has never been afraid to pick a fight as long as someone else had already won it.

14. Actually, you are right for asking because I did leave the impression

that would be the straw. Indeed, it is predicated on whether or not he's able to put people back to work and gets us out of the unjust wars. It is also predicated on whether there is a challenger and who that challenger is.

Since I believe that no jobs are forthcoming and, indeed, more job losses are coming, and since I believe that our occupation of Afghanistan will not end, I don't see there being much hope in me voting for him again. So, in a way Warren is the turning point for me unless the preceding two items come to pass.

Edited to add: I want to clarify that I have not given up hope for Obama. I do still respect him and I do recognize the challenges he faced and the accomplishments he has enjoyed. I think he's the best thing that's happened to this country is a long time. I will merely be disappointed if he fails to achieve greatness, which he surely has the potential to do if only he has the will and the courage.
