4. It costs 41 cents.
It just says "forever stamp". You buy it at whatever the current rate is. So if you stock up when the stamp prices are about to rise, then you can cheat the new stamp price for some period of time.

20. Just set up my online at USPS
And ordered Forever Stamps.

It's the same price so I'd rather deal with it now.

5. It sucks
but maybe 41 is an omen for the number of states we will carry in 2008. I am grasping for silver linings.

9. 39 cents.
Every time someone complains about the cost of postage, hand them an envelope and whatever the current first class postage is, and ask that they deliver the letter to some rural outpost in Alaska, or to an inner city neighborhood in Chicago, or wherever. It's a bargain.

13. I'm not bitching. I just forget how much they cost!
I have a few old 2-cent ones around from the last rate change. At least they won't go to waste.

At least, I THINK I do...

Hmmm...

16. I apologize.
I did not mean to sound snappish, but I often am impressed at what the postal service accomplishes. And I believe that these days it's intended to be profitable, but I could be wrong about that.

An uncle of mine was a mail carrier who retired around 1970. He walked his route, carrying the heavy mailbag, and so I have a lot of respect for the men and women who deliver the mail.

11. Today was the last day for 39 cents stamps
And correct me if I'm wrong, if you mailed something today, it will need "postage due" tomorrow. :(

15. I actually still have some old
flag 37 cent stamps that are identical in design to the 39 cent flag stamps. On occasion I throw one on an envelope that I'm not in a hurry to make arrive just to see if it gets through. And so far they all have.

Anything postmarked before the 14th will go through without a problem, and I suspect that there's at least several days of grace for the older stamps.

I also doubt that the IRS really has a gatekeeper rejecting tax returns postmarked one day late. They get so many millions that are mailed in the last day or two, that it's all they can do to make sure they actually process them in the time they're supposed to.

8. i read a story about how zip+four was supposed to
keep costs down but stamp prices keep going up. it turns out the only thing that's lower cost is sending junk mail. zip codes do nothing to make the mail we actually want any cheaper.

i still haven't used up all my 37 cent stamps yet from before the last hike! at least i have lots of 2 cent stamps to make up the difference.

18. From my experience, the "level of service they offer"...
is top-notch. Try working with some other countries' post offices and you'll be amazed at how well ours works.

24. I 've shipped hundreds of packages with the USPS
since I started selling stuff on the internet, and not once has one been lost or damaged. Many of those were Priority Mail eBay sales, and they get to the customer undamaged within 3 days every time. Can't say the same for UPS, as I've had a few lost or damaged.

17. thanks- most of you!
for defending the post office. I am a city carrier and take great pride in my work. We still have the lowest price of stamps out of any industrialized nation and up until recently, were not even allowed to make a profit- just to break even.

If you think about it, everything has really gone up in price. I myself, have an occasional craving for marshmallow pies- which used to sell for 49 cents at the convenience store. The last time that I had a craving though, the new price was 79 cents- which is what- like, a 60% increase?!

And you are right about junk mail keeping prices down, without it- stamps prices would greatly increase. And most of that mail can be recycled, if that is your concern.

It is essential that we never let them privatize the P.O. Rates would greatly increase to smaller towns and non-profitable areas.

19. Post Office is great to me
And our Post Man is fantastic!

He leaves cards for you if there is ever a health/graduation etc. in our neighborhood.

When our lovely Maltese died last August, the first card we got was from Douglas.

My problem is keeping up with the number of stamps I piece together on the envelopes.

I am getting the "Forever" Stamps. I'm too old to keep trying to piece the stamps together. :)

Thanks so much for all you do.

Please tell your co workers how much we appreciate them!

Right now, everyone and their brother will be lined up at the post office for two cent stamps and the new 41 cent stamps.

with utter, complete shit. Maybe they wouldn't have to keep ripping us off every few months. These fuckers can keep my mail for all I care. I should weld the fucking box closed!
