WASHINGTON — The Associated Press has learned that the Justice Department will file no charges after a lengthy investigation into the Bush administration's firing of U.S. attorneys.

A person close to the case says career prosecutor Nora Dannehy has concluded her two-year investigation into the Bush-era scandal.

Dannehy was investigating whether political considerations played a part in the firings of U.S. attorneys who were dismissed in 2006. The firings, coupled with other allegations that Bush administration officials may have misled Congress about the reasons for the firings, became a distraction for the administration and contributed to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The AP's source spoke on condition of anonymity because the Justice Department has not announced the closure.

4. we don't want to upset the congenial working relationships that the GOP offers.
I can't wait to hear republican and former US Attorney David Ingelias respond to this.

12. True. They might start blocking Democratic legislation
if we do something to make them unhappy.

3. They only way I can accept this is if they were legally unable to come up with
charges. (Like it matters to anybody whether or not I accept it :eyes:).

6. Looks like Alberto Gonzales should get his old job back, then
At least, that's what we're going to hear almost any second now.

These fucking Keystone Kops wouldn't recognize a crime if it bit them in the behind.

7. Fired because they wouldn't aggressively pursue bogus "voter fraud" cases
which were a necessary component in the massive election fraud apparatus that has been put in place in this country. We wouldn't want to open THAT can of worms now would we? You know, I am not one of these hand wringing jerkoffs, but this really in an empire in decline and we are seeing it happen before our very eyes.

9. I would really like to hear why Conyers & the House Judiciary has never acted on
the evidence they obtained (which initially lead to "Preserving Democracy: What Went Wrong in Ohio") as well as this US ATTY firing and the Seigelman Case (which was also about covering up a stolen election). WTF? Instead we get KKKarl working on FAUX and Ken Blackwell blogging on Huff PO. It'a a travesty of justice! Beyond words.

8. Ridiculous.
Anyone here could go back to the time of Attorneygate and read the threads and find probable cause for indictments based just what was in the public record.

I was always quite taken with this little number.

11. Karl Rove is smiling.
At least when Republicans were in power, Democrats were holding hearings. Did he ever answer the subpoenas btw?

I wondered what happened to that investigation. How sad for those fired US Attorneys who acted on principle. Kicked in the teeth once again.

I remember the dramatic testimony of James Comey when he refused to go along with the WH on the illegal spying on Americans.

All is apparently forgiven. And now I know the answer to the question I used to ask 'why don't people stand up for what is right'? Well, a lot of Republicans did in the bush DOJ. They got fired and smeared for doing what was right. And now, a Democratic DOJ has slapped them in face once again.

Change? I suppose it is. There are no more dramatic hearings in Congress and Conyers has apparently retired from protecting and defending the Constitution.

I feel dumb for being one of the first people to sign up at his website, fighting off the rightwingers and helping him gather info, which he asked for, to help him with his timeline of Repubican crimes. I guess they were just keeping us busy.

What a waste of time it all has been ...
