INGSOC and the rewiting of history
Ingsoc (“English Socialism”) originated after the socialist revolution, but, because The Party continually rewrites history, it is impossible to establish the precise origin of English Socialism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingsoc

Notice the constant rewriting of history. What Rachel Maddow just showed us is the present, very real, version of the Ministry of Truth... aka FOX news.

For anybody wondering, this is what PRAVDA used to do, but never this blatantly.

I have to wonder, was Orwell writing fiction... or prophecy?

WOW... I read 1984, I knew the Party, as in the Central Committee in the USSR, did remove people from government sanctioned photos... but my mind reels... this is the state of modern-day US Propaganda, and exhibit A for the fairness doctrine, as well as exhibit B for breaking up the media monopolies.

5. As good as the movie was I agree with you.
There would have been no way to portray all of the book in the movie.

2. Orwell, who was a member of the Labour Party, wrote a cautionary tale
little did he suspect that it would turn out to be prophetic.

3. And he was already disenchanted wih the USSR
not that many folks know that.

So this and Animal Farm where critiques. Alas those critiques are too close to the bone.

What I want to know is when will we start our own version of Perestroyka?

8. Well ABC is not exactly Family Friendly
never mind Disney owns them...

And yes, they do have their own version of the Ministry... I think Mickey runs it.

9. INGSOC limited the number of words in the language.
That limited what people could think and talk about. What could be more dangerous for democracy?

Things, in a way, are more sophisticated than "1984." Lindsay? Britney? Remember Michael?

But Mr. Blair was spot-on regarding the role of language, thought, political discourse, and power.

Thank you for a great OP and thread, nadinbrzezinski.
