What's so wrong with apologizing?
I know many here are unforgiving of Vilsack, but at least he came out an apologized. He seemed truly contrite, IMO. Gibbs did, too. KO apologized even though he didn't have to. Maybe this isn't enough as far as many are concerned, but my problem is that a lot of folks who jumped on this aren't the least bit apologetic for their role. I wish I could apologize to Shirley Sherrod for thinking the worst when this first came out.

My point is that when this short clip was being played over and over and over again, people were slamming her and calling her names. Now that the truth is known, the lack of remorse is just stunning. Pointing fingers is easy, but it seems to me that it takes more of a person to look to themselves and recognize where their fault lies.

I've seen too many people who will refuse to acknowledge their own wrongdoings and mistakes to the point they come off looking worse in other people's eyes. Even then...they will not apologize. Being truly sorry and admitting mistakes and wrongdoings is not a weakness. It's how we learn and become better.

Just a few thoughts about the last few days.

1. There's nothing wrong with apologizing, but
no one would've had to apologize if they'd just considered the source. Breitfart has proven himself to be a liar and a racist, so why believe him in the first place?

2. That is true, but that didn't happen here...
People make mistakes and people rush to judgment all the time. I could accept it easier if there was some showing of contrition by the media at large.

3. I agree. The only contrition I heard from the media,
was Fox blaming it all on Obama. "Why did he rush to judgement?" How much blame did they take for stirring up the mess? None.

4. We need to remember that the NAACP was calling for her resignation, too. That
would carry a lot of weight in my decision.

9. But their history is different from the DLC.
It's not unusual to apologize, is the right thing to do, and isn't the underlying problem.

5. It's fine. The problem is this constant pattern of kneejerk cowardice
The apology unfortunately can't undo that. Maybe it will serve as an inoculation against the next time those sociopathic shitstains cry wold.

7. Maybe it's because Vilsack and others like him in the DLC lean

hop to right wing media like puppets on a string and always have something negative to say to the Democratic netroots as well dismissing everything we have to say. Could that be the reason? It certainly is with me. Sorry, no mercy from me.

8. There is some kind of half-hearted apology from the White House
USDA undersecretary Cheryl Cook was the official who'd called Ms. Sherrod and whose secretary had told her to be available for calls from 'the White House.'

Unless one is ready to start questioning Sherrod's powers of comprehension -which seem excellent- there was White House involvement in the decision to ask her to resign.
