Fox hunts Shirley Sherrod. Terrible week ahead for her. But Fox might over-reach.

Fox can't stand being caught out and I know of at least three people who are coming after Shirley (reading transcripts of past speeches, taking articles out of contexts, etc.):

Bill O'Reilly announced as much on his program last night. Saying that she had "undoubtedly" given many speeches and that he was going to study them . . . mumbling something about probably finding something on her worse than what the tape initially purported.

Charles Krauthammer said last night that now Obama "owned" her. That is, he explained, whatever she does now . . . well "he can't fire her again" and noting that anything she has previously done will reflect directly on Obama as well. Then he mentioned something about "It should be easy to find something . . ." and tailed off.

Glenn Beck will come at her for her progressive notion of redistributing wealth. Her helping of poor farmers &c. as his evidence.

Now, do we think Sean Hannity is going to sit by and let the glory pass him? What about Steve Doocy.

Fox so hates to be SHOWN wrong that it will try to bury Shirley Sherrod. But when they are as rabid as they are now, they will not be able to hear common decency and will alienated a solid percentage of their potential audience.

At any rate, we might brace ourselves for the onslaught.

2. But they've made war heroes into traitors! Draft dodgers into heroes.
Let's not underestimate the powers of deception or we could be "caught out" unprepared.

Everything I know about Shirley Sherrod I love. She reminds me of Barbara Jordan, smart, ethical, human. But Fox is a site of such deceit the world has rarely known. (Esp. with today's technology.)

3. Perhaps the good in this
will be the undeniable exposure of the Faux agenda. And perhaps (hopefully) it will be absolutely the last time the thinking public, the MSM, and Washington fall for it. We should never refer to right wingers as legitimate sources and, particularly, Faux as news -- they spout pure lies and propaganda.

6. The public won't learn from it. Fox "news' will continue to do what they always do, as you say-
spout pure lies and propaganda.

7. He recognizes the race is a sensitive issue and he's trying too hard not to rock the boat.

I don't expect much commentary from Obama on this. He didn't defend ACORN against Brietfart's smear campaign, nor did he make much of a stand against DADT. It seems his way of fighting RW bigotry is just to do nothing and hope it goes away.

12. They've already brought out *everything* against him, true or not.
They've called him every possible political insult. There's no "dry powder" at Fox News (or on the right).

11. Hopefully, the public has already seen the overreach of the FOX Noose channel.
Now that they've seen that FOX Noose gleefully character-assassinated a woman that turned out to be innocent, hopefully people will watch them with a more jaundiced eye...

13. They have to tear her down.
She is the embodiment of the ideals of public service and helping the poor financially, two things the right wingers hate. They can't allow their viewers to sympathize with someone like this for more than 24 hours. When this is all over, your average Fox News viewer will be parroting dozens of lies and distortions about Ms. Sherrod, you can bet on it.

told how other portions of the speech call some past presidendial candidates racists.

19. But Dan Rather gets the shaft and freerepublic comments:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1635615/posts

'This comes after he "resigned" from CBS Evening News position last year in an attempt to stop the bloodletting of advertisers at CBS. As we all know, the primary cause was not so much Rather's broadcasting the original phony Bush "Recordsgate" story but Rather's insistence, way beyond anything or any time that was reasonable, that the story was valid.

From the moment FR's pajamahadeen pointed out the many irrefutable technical flaws in the supposed documents, it was dead meat as a journalistic piece. Rather slew himself by sticking with what was obviously a phony story designed to attack the President and help Kerry."

22. Arguing with Wingnuts....Sherrod

I work with a lot of crazy Wingnuts and enjoy educating them from time to time. Now dont get me wrong, i dont go looking for fights, but every once and a while ill hear something so ignorant, so mis informed, so idiotic i cant help myself. They watch nothing but Faux news and are still under the guise that it is the only credible news outlet out there. They still believed Acorn was a fraud until i laid out some facts for them. They responded in the typical way when Faux news wingnuts have been proven wrong and there faith in faux news challenged......by saying "o" and then gracefully moving on to the next fox news talking point and never speaking of the Acorn thing again as if they were never proven wrong and Faux news is infallible.

Faux viewers try so hard to portray themselves as informed and smarter than everyone else it almost pains me to correct them...... almost.

Well Ill see how they react when i lay some facts on them about the whole Sherrod thing but first i would like to get my facts straight and was hoping you guys could help me......

1) Comments made sometime in the 80's when the woman was not a federal employee.

2) The video in question is her talking about how she at first was going to seek some sort of personal revenge against white people in not giving this farmer full assistance but later had a change of heart and helped the white farmers family save their farm...

3) The whole morale of the story was to not discriminate...

4) And the most damning evidence of all..... The white farmers interview with Sanchez denouncing all racism charges.

Is there anything else i missed?

Thanks for the help guys!

24. I think they will come and think it's reprehensible.
The question is: will others see the swift-boating of Sherrod as we do? Will Fox over-reach due to 1. the rhetorical echo-chamber they live in and 2. the chagrin they feel after attacking Sherrod wrongly.
