6. I'm in Dade, too. :)
I just need enough wind and rain to knock the power out - nothing more. Last summer we were kept busy by the usual afternoon thunderstorms. I've been sitting at home for the past 2 weeks making nothing....

50. I think the intensity forecasts are nuts.
I don't see how, in the middle of summer, a tropical storm will trek across the gulf and not blow up massively. Something about that strikes me as quite insane.

10. any storm in the central gulf will affect the operations to kill the well
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 10:56 AM by Baclava
If they open the spigot again - that would suck.

Might be good news for FL beaches for a bit, though.

The path of circulation will likely pull/push the oil along for the ride with it, far to the west...maybe all the way to TX.

Not lovely

41. heh - I just posted that over on LBN
BP's leaky well to stay capped during storm

(AP)ON THE GULF OF MEXICO — The temporary cap on BP's ruptured oil well can stay closed even if ships evacuate the Gulf of Mexico during a tropical storm, the federal government's oil spill chief said Thursday.

Growing confidence in the experimental cap's security convinced scientists it was safe to leave it unmonitored for a few days, Retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said.

Allen said they'll decide Thursday evening whether ships will have to leave.

"The decision has been made to leave the cap on, even if the well is unattended," Allen said.

Forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami say the storm system has already caused flooding in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It could become Tropical Storm Bonnie later Thursday and reach the Gulf of Mexico by Saturday.

am, indeed, no expert. Apparently I have fallen victim to all the hysteria going on out there on the intenet tubes about this particular storm. I did not know the experts expect this storm to be weak. Even right this moment as I type MSNBC is hyping it up.

the NHC is notoriously bad with intensity predictions, especially this far out. This one bears watching closely.
