Clintons Cancel Fancy Wedding - Opt for Vegas

New York (BS)- 7/23/2010 -- The office of former President William Jefferson Clinton announced today that the wedding of his daughter, Chelsea, will not take place as originally planned. Instead, a small, tasteful wedding will be performed at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, and will be attended by only a small party. Chelsea will wear a tasteful pants suit, selected from her mother's closet as 'something borrowed.' Following the wedding a dinner reception will be held at the Circus Buffet at the Circus Circus Resort and Casino, not far from the chapel. A special Prime Rib Carving Station will be the main attraction.

When asked for the reason for this sudden and unexpected change in plans, former President Clinton was brief: "After Hillary and I read some of the comments on the Democratic Underground discussion forum on the Internet, we realized that an ostentatious wedding was completely out of the question. It's not as though we can't afford it, of course. But, we decided, and Chelsea agrees, that giving employment to all those caterers, musicians, flower shop employees, along with countless waiters and cooks, etcetera was far less important than the optics of having a small wedding."

"The good folks at that Democratic Underground forum opened our eyes," the former President continued, "and we understand now that if we cancel the expensive, ostentatious wedding, we'll have that much more money to maintain us in our retirement years."

Chelsea and her groom could not be reached for comment, as they were being processed through airport security on their way to their flight to Las Vegas.

broke out. Such a pity.

Gotta love it when our influence is demonstrated, though.

7. LOL!
But, seriously, it's the Clintons' money. How they spend it is their business. No doubt there are a lot of social obligations involved, too.

I personally think big weddings are a waste of money and a lot of hassle, but that's the bride, groom, and their families' choice to make.

8. Maybe just go to town hall instead? Why spend more than that even if it is their only daughter??

19. Wow! I've hit quite a few $250 jackpots, but never $1000.
I'm still ahead on the WoF slots in the long term. I have a strategy. If I keep playing, I'll lose everything, so I quit playing when I win, and wait for my next trip to play again.

10. Update: Laughlin, NV was Hillary's First Choice..
After Chelsea stamped her foot in frustration, though, the Las Vegas compromise was reached. According to reports, Chelsea insisted on the Graceland Wedding Chapel, but Hillary would only agree if she wore a borrowed pants suit from her mother's closet.

20. Yah, my wife and I went because my parents, who are in their 80s
go there and asked if we wanted to come along. Very boring, except for the side trip to Oatman to see the donkeys. We did manage, too, to get my parents out of the hotel and to a restaurant not in a casino. Not my favorite place, Laughlin. The next time we go there, I'm taking my fishing pole and going fishing.

11. Oh, how long before they try to sell the pictures of the body scans on Ebay?
Cute post, however, what does it prove? That they don't give a shit about anybody else? I personally think they should spend whatever they like on their daughter's wedding. I just think that, otherwise, they should be treated like everybody else.

12. Uh, yes. It's their daughter and her wedding.
Satire is often used to poke at things.

If the exaggeration wasn't the tip off, the byline was.
