2. The resurrection of 'Xmas in July' is at hand.

I'm not sure it's due to retailers hurting - I think it may be more along the lines of "hey, one Black Friday a year really gets the crowds in and makes us money. I bet TWO Black Fridays would be even better!" If the gimmick works, look for 2 or 3 more "X-mas in {month}" events next year. And March "back to school" sales.

3. Many of the retail stores in my area have had 30-50% off sales for

several years now. The thrift shops and rummage sales are very busy.
