Is that of great import or is it on a par with much of the low level crud peddled on Entertainment Tonight?

Personally, there is a very small chance that there are some things I care even less about.

2. Interestingly, Stinky, I am. My wife is from Poughkeepsie and
is very familiar with Rheinbeck. Her mother took drawings lessons and made several paintings from the building Chelsea Clinton is getting married in. My wife remembers running around in the yard there waiting for her mother to finish up. On the NBC new last night there was a deli they were interviewing locals. We had eaten there early in a relationship (it had pretty good food at a good price). We were talking about it last night, but if her folks still lived up there, her dad probably would have found a way to be involved. He's one of those guys who always had his fingers in what was going on locally!

Oh. Nevermind! You were talking about the wedding itself!

7. I care about it for the same reasons that I cared about watching
The wedding when Princess Diana. Wealthy prominent people usually put on a very nice display fo just what you can do for your cdaughter on her wedding day, an Chelsea IS kinda the American version of Diana. At least in 2010 here in the US. Do I want hours on TV...NO! But I would like to see a little bit, and how things looked and the different ceremonies that were done. I guess it's sort of like how the other halp lives becasue I know I will never experience thes thigs first hand.

It is called being partisan versus principle.

We would hear how the bush's were 'elite' did not care about the little people, etc and so - from the same people who say now "We should thank the Clinton's for creating jobs"

33. The only reason and the only context I cared about the Bush wedding
was that their megalomaniac father started a war and it was INAPPROPRIATE to celebrate a wedding at the White House when soldiers were dying for our country.
I didn't care that they held it elsewhere or how much they spent--only that they not be disrespectful to the men and women dying in their daddy's war by dancing on the lawn of the White House.

37. It's a sad state of affairs when we 'lesser' people have to depend on the wealthy elite to
throw lavish weddings, sweet sixteen birthday parties, etc. just so we can have a few crumbs thrown our way because they have been instrumental in shipping all the good paying jobs out of this Country. :puke:

We're suppose too be thankful for that? :argh:

I like Chelsea. I always have. She's a great kid who never caused her parents a moment of anxiety, and who has consistently acted like a lady and she's sweet.

I will never forget how she acted when the news came out that Bill had lied to Hillary about Lewinsky. It was either the next day or just a few days after that when they were filmed leaving the Whitehouse to go on some holiday together. Chelsea walked between her parents holding their hands. She was like a mommy taking her kids' hands and walking them to the helicopter and she had her head up and was smiling that sweet smile of hers for the cameras. It made me cry then, and it made me choke up writing about it now.

47. Definitely low-level. My one comment would be that I find such spending "gross".
But I think that was about the level of most people's original comments.

Ironically, it was the vehemence of the Clinton's defenders that raised it to seeming to be such a big topic.

For example, if they had responded, "Yeah, oh well." instead of "How DARE you!?" or "It is STIMULATING the local economy!" then it wouldn't have seemed like people thought much of it.

51. Only because of how the right wing treated her as the first daughter.
The right was willing to smear her. Given what the right says about family values and the Clintons, she should be living under a bridge snorting coke, and trading dirty needles for sex acts.

And yet she has defied them. Which I love.

But ... the main thing that caught my attention in all this ... was how angry some on DU got about it. That was a big surprise for me.

Makes me wonder what the threads would look like if Hillary has won ...

I'm guessing she'd be called a corporate shill ... and Bill was trying to wipe out the country ... so on.

So basically, I see the Chelsea story as more of a lightening rod for anger against the Bill and Hillary. Anger that has been hiding because Obama won.

Give them numbers and make them wear jerseys with the corporate logos of their biggest donors.

List the amount they get from donors and the bills they vote on that benefit the donors.

Make them sign a contract to serve and exile them permanently if they violate it.

Screw the drama and show biz. We've got serious matters to address and people suffering.
