Afghanistan. We can't "win".
Edited on Mon Jul-26-10 02:14 PM by walldude
Ignoring the fact that no one can tell you what exactly "victory conditions" are this is a war we can't win. History tell us this. Well, we can win, if we are willing to Kill Them All. We aren't going to win hearts and minds. We aren't going to win diplomatically. And we certainly aren't going to "kill all their leaders and force them to become Christian" unless you think Ann Coulter is actually sane. The only way to win is Genocide. Are we willing to do that? Will you be able to sleep at night knowing that your "peace of mind" came at the expense of a Genocidal Act?

I know there are "threats". There are always going to be "threats". There is always going to be the next "Hitler" waiting to kill us all. What makes us who we are is how we respond to those threats

Frankly, judging from our responses to "threats" in the past years we are nothing but a bunch of greedy warmongering idiots who believe that our "enemies" are attacking us because we are so good and righteous and free. It's absurd.

If it's security you want, then build a society that no one wishes to attack you must - YODA

5. The only invader to pacify the country to his liking
was Genghis Khan. Unless we're willing to use methods regarded as vigourous by 13th century observers, we aren't going to succede.

9. There is no win in Afghanistan.
However long we stay, once we leave, the country will revert to the same tribal rule it has always had. Afghanistan was a huge mistake.

10. Afghanistan: Graveyard of Empires.
Watch the movie Charlie Wilson's War. At the end (Congressman Wilson) says that basically they killed lots of people, helped the Afghans make the Russians retreat, but did the Americans stay there and rebuild the schools, the hospitals, the infrastructure, to help the people? No they didn't.

And we wonder why they hate our guts.

11. You'd have to be ...
... a compete tard to think we could and I know our leaders aren't COMPLETE tards. So why are we there? There is a reason, I just don't know what it is.

But what it ISN'T is the promise of "victory".

12. Let's sort out the "we", though. "They" make a bundle every time
"our" troops are deployed anywhere. "We" don't get to decide. "We" just get to pay for it and sometimes, die for it.

All of that doesn't turn into "us" until "they" sell it with a bunch of flags and suddenly "we" are doing it.
