A simple Google exercise - Obama continues Bush
Is it possible to have a civil discussion about anything that comes up in that search?

Is discussing specifically which policy stances Obama shares with his predecessor acceptable on a political discussion board?

2. How dare Obama continue Bush's policy of having a Vice President and an oval office.
Thats what a good deal of the "Obama/Bush" crap amounts to.

5. It's not just the warS...
...state secrets trumps public right to know

drug war means pot smokers are felons

mideast policy means Israel first

Iran policy means bomb bomb bomb

toll roads over public roads

privatizing social security

indefinite detention, sayonara to habeas corpus

decoupling public education from teachers' unions

posse comitatus and the militarization of public safety

economic policies favoring Wall Street over the rest of America

Rove and Gonzalez trump Siegelman and Crushy

And it goes on...

I have no problem talking about any of these and most every thing else in a civil manner.

In fact, I want to hear from others their thoughts and why things are the way they are.

My concern is that when I voted for Obama, I got McPalin.
And that's just like what happened in 2000 to Al Gore, another Democrat.

6. Here's one of my biggest concerns
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/31/john-yoo-obama-is-a-conti_n_408441.html

John Yoo, no less, says that Obama is continuing the same abusive use of executive powers as Bush

"In his new book, former Bush administration attorney and infamous torture memo collaborator John Yoo favorably argues that President Barack Obama is wielding executive powers in the same manner as his White House predecessor."

The link above is a New Years Eve Sam Stein article on Huffington Post that I cannot copy and paste the title to, for some annoying reason - please do read the entire brief article at the link.

I don't know why some people don't get that the fact that Obama has not renounced these policies and is in fact deploying them himself, and just cements these clearly UnConstitutional breeches to be ingrained as acceptable Presidential practice.

It IS NOT acceptable Presidential practice, I don't care whether it is Bush or Obama eroding the rights of the people and their elected Congress.

When these practices occurred under Bush, this board was up in arms and screaming for impeachment. President Obama does the same thing and . . . crickets.

The Dems and the left and the progressives and anyone who cares about the separation of powers all reveal themselves to be hypocritical cowards since they maintain a complicit silence when it's our side who does the transgressing.

7. Ok I'll play
Despite rhetoric, Obama continues Bush policy on detainees: Indefinite detention, no legal rights

Bagram airbase flies under the radar but will continue to operate without US law
In a stunning departure from his rhetoric on Guantánamo Bay prison, President Barack Obama signaled Friday he will continue Bush Administration policy with regard to detainees held at a US airbase in Afghanistan, saying they have no right to challenge their detentions in US courts -- and denying them legal status altogether.

"This Court’s Order of January 22, 2009 invited the Government to inform the Court by February 20, 2009, whether it intends to refine its position on whether the Court has jurisdiction over habeas petitions filed by detainees held at the United States military base in Bagram, Afghanistan," Acting Assistant Obama Attorney General Michael Hertz wrote in a brief filed Friday. "Having considered the matter, the Government adheres to its previously articulated position."

The move seems to be a reversal from Obama's much-trumpeted announcement to close the US prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba in January, in which he promised to return the United States to the "moral high ground" and "restore the standards of due process"

I actually have known about this for months. (Thanks to Maddow)

This is one of the areas as well as civil liberties in general where I'm unhappy with this decision. It isn't because he hasn't done enough in 1 year and a half.
