Becks incendiary angst dangerously close to having a body count
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 12:29 PM by jah the baptist
Note that the radicial right’s media rhetoric is no longer even political in a partisan sense. Instead, it’s purely revolutionary. It isn’t, “We think taxes should be lower” or “Obama should be more hawkish overseas.” It’s, “There’s an insidious and deadly plot afoot by Democrats and progressives to strip Americans of their freedom and this country of its greatness.” Obama is now the incarnation of evil (the Antichrist?), and his driving hatred for America, as well as for democracy, runs so deep that he ran for president in order to destroy the United States from inside the Oval Office.

http://www.salon.com/news/glenn_beck/index.html?story=/news/feature/2010/07/27/beck_s_angst_close_to_having_a_body_count

I was thinking this this morning on the way to work. Despit all of the nasty things we, rightfully, called Bush and Cheney, the whole manchurian candidate purposefully working to destroy America from within was never part of the equation. Come to think of it, it was never part of the relentless attack on Clinton during his presidency. Sure they called him a murderer, but the attacks on Obama are of a different type of bile. I can onlhy conclude that it is the color of his skin.

20. Hardly- guys like Beck and the other nutters are the best players on the Democrat's team

makes people forget their haplessness and repeated pandering to the corporate right. The louder they are, the better.

Of course, it would help if the "leadership" didn't act like they were so afraid of them....

2. I was just talking about this this weekend.
It's not just policy anymore. It's the destruction of all we hold near and dear.

This is complete, total, reprehensible bullshit.

I don't know how to be more disgusted with these people.

3. There was some of it with Clinton. The whole militia movement
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 01:10 PM by DirkGently
got going, based largely on the "New World Order" type conspiracies, which popped back up as soon as Bush left office. Somehow Waco, in which a heavily armed child molester burned his congregation to death, became enshrined as an example of the authoritarian left. It was a different version of the same idea -- that America is being secretly taken over, not by the rich who ... have already taken over, but by commies or brown people or pagans, or virtually any outside force that can be painted as a more frightening enemy than the people who actually ARE crushing the middle class.

American conservatives don't rely much on policy arguments. They rely on the politics of personal destruction. Newt Gingrich was / is a grand practitioner. They spend a lot of effort proposing a narrative that anyone who opposes them politically is, literally, evil. Not American. Not patriotic. "Marxist / Socialist / Communist." That non-whites or non-Christians are out to steal everyone's cookies. They tread heavily on the Fear button, because it short-circuits debate.

They have to, because, while there are ideas in the conservative spectrum that might make sense, our political climate is so skewed here that they have no legitimate battles left to win. All they're basically arguing for now is that the rich must get richer. You can't afford a long, meaningful political conversation if your economic theory is that tax cuts pay for themselves and financial and environmental regulations are a bad thing.

I'm disappointed that the administration seems so often cowed by this tactic. Firing Sherrod *in her car* because "You're going to be on Glenn Beck tonight?" This President has enough verbal AND policy savvy to politely but firmly slap these things down.

The only answer to this is unheated, rational, perhaps amused factual response. "Well, Fox played another heavily edited race-baiting video today. Those guys!" "Here's the actual numbers on the defict and where it came from -- sorry to see so many people misunderstand." "Here's how nationalized healthcare works for the rest of the world -- see? No death panels." "There goes Sarah Palin again, still not sure there are 'two Koreas.'"

Instead, though, the bullies and psychos are encouraged. And more disturbing, it's become not just a sideshow, but the main event for American conservative politics. I think they WANT people shooting up Holocaust museums and Unitarian churches. Pulling guns on federal cops as Beck "speculated" might happen.

Laugh at them, or drown them in facts, or both, but we can't ignore the nut brigade any longer, or we're literally going to be fighting them in the streets, which is part of what they want.

18. Some RW bloggers reported Chinese troops staging in Mexico...
...on call to help Obama intern conservatives in our FEMA camps, LOL! To make it even scarier, they reported that interneees would be subjected to "homosexual rape".

All of this garbage has been recycled from the Clinton years to use against Obama. The astonishing thing is that so many wingnuts actually believe it!

21. I have to laugh whenever I hear 'black helicopters'
The funny thing is that, during the Vietnam War, our CIA actually used WHITE helicopters in Vietnam. I think it was because they were less conspicuous in the daytime sky, and at night the color didn't matter much.

10. Based on the Shirley Sherrod affair
I think the administration is flat petrified of Beckie. They won't do anything to confront his daily broadcast madness, and they'll run like scared rabbits to avoid being the focus of one of his demented tirades.

13. I find it ironic how Beck's followers are 'Christians' but are addicted to hate.
Edited on Tue Jul-27-10 04:54 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Beck is making a fortune peddling hate and bearing false witness against his neighbors but he has a huge number of fundamentalist 'Christians' blindly supporting him. His show keeps mutating to even higher levels of hatred yet his supposed 'Christian' supporters never question him. They believe his every word as if it's the gospel.

Beck even spoke at Liberty U, the Christian diploma mill, with the goal of putting as many fundamentalist Christians in high places in government so they can change our laws to resemble archaic and barbaric Biblical laws. They want to overturn Roe v Wade, but so much more. They want to impose their religious values on everyone else.

They dream of turning the United States into a theocracy much like the religious dominated countries in the Middle East. This is not an exaggeration. Look at the laws being proposed around the country by fundamentalist Christians. In Texas they want to dictate what people can do in their own bedrooms and how they want to be able to remove children from their parents if they are gay. To these Christians, they would rather have a child growing up in an emotionally and physically abusive heterosexual household than in a home with gay parents who are providing a healthy, nurturing and loving environment for their children.

Texas Representative Robert Talton even proposed a bill that would have empowered the state's social workers to go to any house in the state and if the parents said they were gay the children would be immediately seized and put in the custody of the state. And Robert Talton professes to be a Christian. What Christian would rip a child away from their loving parents and made wards of the state. And conservatives 'say' they are for less government intrusion into peoples' lives.

I find it very disturbing how they are so willing to scrap the protections granted to us by our Constitution and replace them with their beliefs of what our laws should be according to their interpretations  of the Bible. It's ironic how they 'say' they are Christians but are so consumed by hatred of others and their beliefs. Jesus' teachings were about love, but fundamentalist right wing Christians are motivated by a deep seated hatred of others and their freedoms.

Glenn Beck constantly fuels these fanatics with his hate-laced rhetoric. His shows have mutated from hate-filled political rankings to hate-filled religious sermons. His fanatical followers are either too ignorant or too stupid to even realize Glenn Beck violates one of the Ten Commandments every day he is on the air when he bears false witness against his neighbors.

Beck is dangerous and so are all of the fanatics who listen to and believe his every word.

Because he's already convinced the less-sane to have crazy dreams about rebellion and anarchy.

The only question is WHEN they'll act on it.
