Cameron - UK Conservative PM "Gaza can not and must not continue to be a prison".
Somewhat different to Neo con Labour's Tony Bliar and his fellow un-prosecuted War Criminal who when they saw a Muslim Country and wanted to bomb it.

David Cameron used a visit to Turkey to make his strongest intervention yet in the intractable Middle East conflict today when he likened the experience of Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip to that of a "prison camp".

Although he has made similar remarks before, his decision to repeat them on a world stage in Turkey, whose relations with Israel have deteriorated sharply since it mounted a deadly assault on the Gaza flotilla, gave them much greater diplomatic significance.

Cameron's comments, in a speech to business leaders in Ankara, prompted the Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to issue another strong condemnation of how Israel dealt with the flotilla.

Erdogan likened the behaviour of Israeli commandos, who shot dead nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists, to Somali pirates.

Cameron's criticism of Tel Aviv came when he called for Israel to relax its restrictions on Gaza. "The situation in Gaza has to change," he said. "Humanitarian goods and people must flow in both directions. Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp."

I can hear the jaws of the American right hitting the floor now. When will they learn that you can oppose the policies of the Israeli government while still supporting the concept of the State of Israel?

1. Refreshing stand that takes backbone
Labour needs to wake up now if they ever want power back. In the end, they may prefer the Tory/New Dem policies (whatever they come out being)

2. Except that Gaza can and will continue to be a prison...
...because what a British P.M. says about it doesn't mean a thing in the grand scale of international affairs.

And, by the way, TBB, you're wrong about Blair -- he was heavily in favor of the peace process and a two-state solution. In fact, it was well-known at the time that the only way W. got Blair to favor the Iraq war was with a "back-channel" promise that, once Saddam Hussein was overthrown, the U.S. would throw its power behind just such a solution, and pressure Israel to accept a Palestinian state. Of course, as soon the "mission" was "accomplished" with the help of the Brits, Bush reneged on that promise (see "...doesn't mean a thing in the grand scale of international affairs").
