General Sir Mike Jackson Gen Jackson was head of the army when British troops went into Iraq

The Iraq inquiry is to question two of the UK's most senior ex-generals as it nears the end of its latest hearings.

General Sir Mike Jackson, Chief of the General Staff between 2003 and 2006, and his successor General Sir Richard Dannatt will both give evidence.

The inquiry is looking at the UK's role in the build-up to the war and the handling of its aftermath and is expected to publish its report around the end of the year.

1. Of course it was illegal... it was said so at the time
and those of us who said so were told to STFU.

2. I remember his skepticism in the buildup (pre war) and his giving cover for
war rationalizations (of US) at the time of the vote. He sure didn't claim that publicly at the time. There were a few world stage players that I think could have slowed the momentum, and he was one. But I remember very clearly his giving rationale for supporting the reasoning behind the UN resolution (that was put forward but pulled before a vote because it didn't have the votes, but was used by Bushco and Blair as evidence as legitimacy for waging war.)
