Not one of them would vote to give that power to President Obama.

Should we want the line item veto? I think so.

2. To cancel all pork spending for Red states, you bet
And also to give the president power to move around spending in the budget.

Start by moving all NASA facilities in Alabama and Texas to Florida (it's a swing state, you know).

3. People in Alabama work in those NASA facilities in Alabama, you know.
I don't see the reason to move any existing anything anywhere.

Red states need jobs just as any other, even if the NASA facilities here are 100% staffed by pukes (which I doubt but don't know).

4. I remember. At the time, I thought "watch what you wish for".
My mother always told me that, and I have seen things backfire enough times to know that everything is a double-edged sword. But it would be fun to watch the Reps squirm over a line item veto these days.

6. They voted it in near the end of Clinton's first term with the caveat
that it wouldn't take effect until the next presidential term. They were sure that they would win. Clinton used his pen to strike two small items to test it- the Supreme Court struck down the line item veto as a violation of the separation of powers. It has been a dead issue since then.
