NJ Gov Chris Christie dissed cast of MTV reality show Jersey Shore
From today's Countdown with Keith Olbermann (hosted by Lawrence O'Donnell for now while Olb is on vacation or something) I learned that Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, dissed the cast of the MTV reality show Jersey Shore, which is about a group of young Italian-Americans residing in a summer share. Christie dismissed the economic benefits of that show (saying that the money isn't worth it) and stated that the cast were New Yorkers simply vacationing in his home state and asked the cast to leave New Jersey. Italian-American groups have criticized the show for portraying negative stereotypes, and as usual cultural conservatives label this show as corruption of youth (MTV is no stranger to hatred from cultural conservatives).

The full interview with Matt Lauer of Today is here. Christie also discussed Christie's beef with NJ teachers (interview includes video of exchange between a teacher and Christie at some town hall meeting) if you're interested in more serious political issues about Christie/New Jersey.

1. Christie is an idiot, but I won't fault him for this one.
I wouldn't want those idiots in my state either. The Sopranos made Jersey look a lot better than those cartoonish no talent fuckwits.

2. I've watched the first 2 seasons of the Sopranos. Good show right there.
And also the first 4 eps of Season 3.

BTW, I'm from California and do not recall the Governator saying that Laguna Beach (another MTV reality show, from my middle school years) made Southern California look bad. Maybe he didn't wanna lose cred with his pals in Hollywood, haha.

For a more extreme example, when will Obama ever say "BET makes black Americans look bad"? Just wondering.

7. As a former jerseyite who vacationed in Belmar almost evey summer and...

and sometimes hit Seaside Heights, I loved and hated the show "The Jersey Shore". It did capture everything great and wretched about renting a house with fellow twenty-somethings at the shore.

8. It appears Christie and I are of like minds on this one thing, apparently.
Jersey Shore is trash and I would personally like to set "Snooki" on fire.

10. That's what's known as picking the low hanging fruit.
I mean, the whole point of the show is to make the average schmuck feel better about themselves in comparison to those "reality star" fucksticks.
