Not sure what the story is.

PHOENIX - A Chandler police officer has died after being shot during an undercover operation in south Phoenix Wednesday evening, according to police.

Two other officers were also shot and have been transported to Valley hospitals, said Phoenix Police Department spokesman Steve Martos. One of them is in critical condition and the other is listed in stable condition.

Phoenix police shut down the area near 23rd Avenue and Vineyard Road as officers searched for seven suspects just before sunset.

Martos said two suspects were killed at the scene. Two others were taken into custody and the remaining three were injured and transported to area hospitals.

On a bored whim, I googled online police scanners, came up with the site below, hit top 50 feeds and found this:

by Michael Ferraresi - Jul. 28, 2010 09:13 PM
The Arizona Republic .

At least one Chandler police officer and two criminal suspects were killed in a shootout during an undercover drug operation that went awry in south Phoenix on Wednesday evening.

The names of the dead were not immediately available late Wednesday because Phoenix police were still trying to sort out what happened inside a residence in the 2300 block of West Darrel Road where rescue personnel were called around 6:45 p.m.

In its immediate aftermath, two suspects lay dead, while three Chandler officers and two other suspects were sent to area hospitals with varying gunshot wounds.

10. +1. Sensibly, totally preventable. And fwiw, I've never used an illegal substance in my life,
including pot.

I'm sick to death f the atrocious waste of resources--and lives.

6. There are still 6 or 7 suspects at large, all black males.
The police dispatcher further said that there were no hispanics involved.
