The rethug mentality on mountaintop removal coal mining
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/07/29/quote_of_the_day.html

Quote of the Day

"I think they should name it something better. The top ends up flatter, but we're not talking about Mount Everest. We're talking about these little knobby hills that are everywhere out here."

-- Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul (R), in an interview with Details magazine, on mountain top removal coal mining, noting many people "would say the land is of enhanced value, because now you can build on it."

1. I soooo detest that smarmy little prick.
If he's so enamored of mountain top mining, I suggest he move downstream of one of their operations.:grr: :grr: :grr:

2. How about 'terrain equalization'?

Seeing how they take the tops off of the mountains and dump them in the valleys.

Who could be against equalization?

3. It's affirmative action for valleys and hollers
So you libruls should be in favor of it!

Nitwit conservative logic at its best. Similar to "Sarah Palin's running for vice president. She's a woman. You libruls like to see women advance. Therefore, you must vote for Sarah Palin. Oh, and her running mate, too."

4. Well, they are the oldest mountain in the world.
Old and in the way, a repub environmental death panel needed. Every town in Appalachia can have 20 golf courses and as many airports. They can get drinking water from??????

5. Hey, that's real libertarian free-market economics.
Something only has value if it has monetary value. Natural beauty and cultural heritage don't mean a fucking thing to the free market. Naked conservatism right there.

6. K&R. Rand is a real douchebag. Building on top of mtn. top removal sites is about all you can do

because nothing will grow there. Those sites will always be a bare rock. All that stuff they "re-claim" them with is pretty much just green paint.

Randroid should listen to a real Appalachian and representative of Kentucky speak about mountaintop removal.

7. Actually, you can't build on it - its unstable for decades, can 't graze it either
You can make an old strip mine look sort of nice, but you can not do anything productive with it other than build a golf course. Unfortunately there is very little need for more golf courses in the coal fields, the rich mine operators only need one or two.
