Anyone with details on Chelsea's wedding today?
I really hope, if nothing else, that the fucking RW media will leave her alone, and let her and her husband enjoy their honeymoon, whereever they're going.

13. Well, I'm staying away from local shrimp here in Juneau
we had a red tide this summer(and I don't mean in the political sense).

Fondue sounds good, though. What would you pick for tunes?

15. I think I'd go with "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be"
Which is a song that should NEVER be played at weddings, yet often is.

17. Oh man, I can't believe that is played at weddings
My contender for totally inappropriate wedding reception song has always been "Me and Mrs Jones"
Unfortunately, I have never heard it played. But I hold out hope.

20. The only one worse than that
Edited on Fri Jul-30-10 11:52 PM by Ken Burch
is when they play "Where is The Love?", the old Roberta Flack-Donnie Hathaway duet(when I was a kid going to weddings in the Seventies, this kept getting played at receptions, which made no sense whatsoever if you actually listened to the lyrics).

Other nominees for "way, way wrong for the sitch" would be

"The One I Love" R.E.M.

"Every Breath You Take" Sting

and, of course, the original Stones version of "Under My Thumb".

(in another vein, a friend of mine told me that, if he ever got married, he wanted "I Want To Kiss You All Over" played as the bride and groom walked back down the aisle.)

22. If I ever have a wedding
(which looks as though it will never happen) I would want Engelbert Humperdinck there singing some of his best love songs, and have Pachelbel's Canon instead of "Here Comes the Bride" though it is also a well-known wedding song too. Some light classical and jazz tunes, and of course, The Carpenters "We've Only Just Begun." Yeah, it's schmaltzy, but hey, it works.

10. Humph.
The whole thing as thus far reported in right and left wings of the 'news' media leaves me disgusted.

A Democrat, even a former president, being a part of a multi-million dollar wedding when there is over nine percent unemployment???!!!

Sorry, I can't be too interested when two investment bankers get married, especially when it is treated like a royal wedding.

I'm sure Chelsea Clinton is a fine young woman, but this excess is yet another example of a nation in decline.

21. Well, actually a lot of that is innuendo
The top wedding planners and other people close to that kind of event have said the wedding isn't costing millions of dollars. The truth might be closer to the mid hundred thousands, and not even near the millions.

Also, this is the most precious gift that the bride's parents can give their daughter--the wedding. I'm certain that Bill and Hillary donate to many charities on an ongoing basis, so why shouldn't they splurge for Chelsea's wedding? They've got the money, so why shouldn't they spend it? Why shouldn't they have the time of their lives giving Chelsea the best damned wedding?

Peeps--would we really want to see the former democratically elected president, and the Secretary of State, his wife, being misers over this memorable day? Why must we judge them on every single thing they do? The right wing does, and will continue to do so, and I refuse to go there with people on the same side of the aisle that I'm on. We should just be happy that Chelsea has grown up beautiful, intelligent and sensitive, and that she loves her fiance very much.

We can't begrudge the Clintons on a day like today, and just cherish the moment for them and their continued success.

Here in the US, we don't have a king or queen, but it doesn't mean we can't have a family that defines a form of royalty. To me, and to many Democrats, the Clintons ARE royal. There are very few world leaders who have captured our attention for so long, and for so many different reasons. Bill, the Governor. Bill, the President. Hillary, the First Lady. Hillary, the Secretary of State. Bill, as a worldwide ambassador. Hillary, a Grammy-winning author. Chelsea, the sometimes awkward teenage, who was maligned by Rush Limbaugh, in one of the most egregious comments that scumbag ever made. Today, Chelsea Clinton will essentially stick out her tongue at Limbaugh and prove she is 10 to the 10th power more classy than Rush will ever be.

And let's face it--this event is helping out a lot of industries in New York, and an event forging a bond with many small businesses.

Why should we deny the Clintons that honor, of giving their only child a wedding of a lifetime?

24. Are you as upset about the $7 million boat? Or the new Clinton house? Or
is it only the wedding.

Mrs C has a job. Mr C makes money with books and speaking engagements. He has some retirement income. They have investment income. It is their money being spent on their daughter.

29. I think it's sad that so many people can't be happy for
the Clintons. I have always believed that as long as people pay their taxes and did the best they could in any and all endeavors, that what they do should be their right, and that the rest of us should STFU.

Think about it: as liberals, we want the government to stay out of our daily lives so we can pursue other goals. We want to make the best of what we already have, and let our personal choices remain personal. People grouse about what the Clintons are spending on the wedding, but hey--expensive weddings are common, and we don't see people making a big deal out of them. The truth is there are people who still resent the Clintons--if we had a choice between GWB and Bill Clinton, some might vote for GWB because they hate Bill that much. Sad.
