2. Good link. Here's my local dealer in grass-fed Angus beef

Holding Ranch (AKA Deer Hill Ranch)

Their beef tastes like beef. I can eat a small portion and feel full because of it.

14. Strawberries & asparagus are coming in locally, but all the grocery store has
(the regular old grocery store) is strawberries from California and asparagus from Washington State. I'm in NC, clear across the country.

Just imagine--all that fossil fuel burned to bring produce to my grocery store that is IN SEASON right down the road from me.

It doesn't taste as good as the local produce (because it was picked well in advance) and it's environmentally nuts to buy in to that whole process.

18. I vote for organic
After tasting organic products I am happy. To think that people in previous generations ate what was in season and appreciated it. Asparagus is in season this week - it's delicious! Our modern society has become used to having all produce available all the time. It may be pretty but not ripe - green produce - yuk. Strawberries the size of plums but are crunchy and tomatoes are now crunchy too. Unfortunately, we sometimes forego ripe produce for produce that is pretty. The difference being that ripeness matters in taste. Organic provides better quality. Meats are also more flavorfull and juicy.

When I was a child I remember strawberries and tomatoes that were smaller, juicier, more flavorful. They are hard to find now.

Interesting also that the organic bee hives are not having to deal with CCD. As I understand it there is an effort to make the bees larger and it is not working.

Thanks for the links to farms to lead us to a healthier life.

22. I Love Fruits And Veggies From The Local Market. My Only Complaint/Wish Is That They Would
find a better way to keep all the bugs off of the food. Sometimes I'll see some fruit, cherry tomatoes etc that look so good but then upon closer inspection see all the fruit flies and stuff infested on them and get disgusted. Ain't no way in hell I'm buyin it then.

But I love good market fresh fruit from non-infested displays and I also love a good pick your own raspberry/strawberry etc outing.

24. Bugs don't bother me as much as pesticides and herbicides.
I'd rather my produce have a bug or two or three (I always inspect and rinse anyway) than be "perfect looking" and full of god-knows-what chemicals.

25. Well, To Each Their Own.
I'd rather not eat bug infested fruit. But my eyes light up like a kid in a candy store when I come across a good table full of yummy fresh farm fruit that doesn't appear to be ridden with them; especially a good table with pints of hand picked cherry tomatoes etc.

26. Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU, Lex
I have already found me a local farmer. We spoke on the phone for around 15 minutes. He has goat milk and cheese, fresh free range eggs, and will have fresh produce when the harvest comes around.
I let him know that I would be happy to support him and his farm. Even mentioned to him the importation of chinese produce and how crazy that was on soooooooooooo many levels. Sent him my email and now have to be patient while Mother Nature does what she likes to do best!

I explained how I grew up on a 12 acre mini farm and just how rewarding sun riped tomatoes are compared to hothouse tomatoes. I never understood how there could be such a difference but THERE IS.... Nothing quite like a sun ripe tomato... We used to raise Beef Steak tomatoes and some of those suckers weighed over a pound, and like the name of the variety it is one of the meatiest tomatoes out there.

YUM-YUM-YUM, can't wait for the harvest....
