Donated socks save soldiers' feet
Donated socks save soldiers' feet

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Mike McBrayer knows socks. And he knows combat.

~snip~

"When I was in Vietnam, out in the bush or anywhere you were, anytime you stopped, you changed your socks," said McBrayer, who sells all kinds of outdoor boots and clothing in addition to those outdoor socks at the store.

"Your feet are an important thing in combat. In wartime, you only go where your feet take you. We would ask for food from home first, and socks second."

Then co-worker Maleah Faulk mentioned to McBrayer that she had been talking to friends at the Rock Hill branches of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion about what soldiers need while deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Everybody mentioned socks," said Faulk. "Fresh socks. Thick socks. Clean socks. The guys always need more socks."

unhappycamper comment: Too bad a trillion dollars a year isn't enough to buy socks for our soldiers.

1. I guess wars/occupations just become worse
when they're run by idiots, demonstrating a complete absense of appropriate priorities, all the way up to the top.

3. I wasn't in the bush, but I still ended up changing my socks at least twice a day in Vietnam.
Socks are a good thing. Too bad we can't afford them for our soldiers.

5. The DOD budget is for blowing up things...
You can't blow up anything with socks.

Besides, why buy socks when you can get others to donate them?

6. You go to war with the socks you have, not the socks you want/need.
:silly:

8. If we have to call off these illegal occupations because of lack of socks
I'm in favor of it. Bring them home now so our star-spangled, freckle-faced, fightin' men and women can have fresh clean socks.
