Obama Administration's Scientists Admit Alarm Over Dispersants
Environmental Protection Agency experts expressed concerns to superiors about use of dispersants, says whistleblower group

by Suzanne Goldenberg

The Obama administration is facing internal dissent from its scientists for approving the use of huge quantities of chemical dispersants to tackle the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Guardian has learned.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has come under attack in Congress and from independent scientists for allowing BP to spray almost 2m gallons of the dispersant Corexit on to the slick and, even more controversially, into the leak site 5,000ft below the sea. Now it emerges that EPA's own experts have been raising similar concerns within the agency.

Jeff Ruch, the executive director of the whistleblower support group Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, said he had heard from five scientists and two other officials who had expressed concerns to their superiors about the use of dispersants.

"There was one toxicologist who was very concerned about the underwater application particularly," he said. "The concern was the agency appeared to be flying blind and not consulting its own specialists and even the literature that was available."

6. No shit.
What has been done with the aid of the Air Force spraying this toxic killer is beyond reprehensible.

4. Apparently
the idiot policymakers are far more interested in dollars and corporations than in the welfare of flesh and blood citizens, the truly innocent animals and mother earth herself.

They are unworthy and undeserving of my support. Fuck 'em.

10. Tonight, as I had NBC Nightly News on in the background, I happened to see
a round of "Fish Testing". NBC went BEHIND THE SCENES and filmed the fish testing.

It consisted of people smelling the fish. No, really. They sniffed it and took some tissue samples. The fish were pronounced SAFE and ready to eat, were promptly thrown on the grill and consumed by consumers.

On July 11, THE Dr. Sanjay Gupta, darling of the media/medical elite, confirmed in an on-air interview that... THERE IS NO TEST FOR COREXIT. (they're working on one, tho, be patient)

The EPA's test pronounced Corexit SAFE because exposed fish were alive 96 hours after exposure. Too bad the specimens were mostly dead two weeks later.. the EPA wasn't looking.

This is going to make Erin Brokovich look like a tea party (excuse the pun) years down the road.

11. Sounds like their "fish test" doesn't begin to pass the smell test

I can't believe anyone actually ATE the fish after someone just SMELLED them?

The airborne Corexit must have already gone to their brains.
