For all you lefties
http://www.factodiem.com/2010/07/other-hand.html

Though negative feelings toward left-handed people have abounded throughout history, and in some places continue to do so today, we southpaws have still managed to do well for ourselves. Lefties include an impressive list of high achievers, and are hugely overrepresented among Nobel Prize winners, U.S. Presidents, and famous artists, athletes, and academics. Lefties are often credited with having "a wider scope of thinking" which enables greater abstraction. But what does that mean? What does handedness have to do with thought? And why are there lefties - or righties for that matter - in the first place?

7. I do everything with my left hand.
I shoot, throw, play pool, cut up a veggie, etc. all with my left hand. Except write, I write with my right hand because that was how I was taught. Of course my handwriting is terrible. I tried to train myself to write left handed to improve my penmanship, but it was too late.

18. I'm just the oppsite of you... but I can write with my right hand.
My handwriting is pretty bad, so writing with my right hand doesn't make a difference.

Some time ago, when I was stressed out with two jobs and a-hole roomates, I probably could of gotten away with filling out scripts at the Pharmacy.

9. In college
I majored in German and in the upper level classes there were 3-4 out of ten of us fighting over 1 or 2 left-handed desks. In the science auditorium, which seated a couple hundred, there were left-handed seats on the edge of the far rows. It was very hit or miss in the other classes if there would be left-handed desks or not, we lefties just had to make do. Sometimes a right-hander would sit in a left-handed desk and say, "This is so weird! How can anybody write like that?!" ... with no clue that it was like that every day for lefties. Maybe that teaches you empathy for minorities. I would bet that there's at least a little greater than average number of lefties on DU.

11. Revenge of the lefty
Give a right hander a manual can opener or spatula designed for left handers. Then tease them when they make comments about what is wrong with the tool.

21. i never had a left-handed desk. i must have lived in a
conservative town that wouldn't buy lefty desks. :eyes: i am happy that i never had a teacher try to change me, though.

10. I'm mixed dominance.
Right-handed for single-handed activities, but I bat or swing an axe left-handed. I can easily switch dominance between my eyes. Just sort of goofy wiring.

:hi:

but I also do a lot of other things right handed. Most likely because I grew up in a family of six being the only lefty.

22. it's long been a right-handed world. i don't even own
left-handed implements. all of my utensils, such as scissors/can openers are right handed. lefties have always had to be ambidextrous.

19. Cameras are left handed. The focus and aperture are controlled
by the left. The right controls the shutter.

23. i totally disagree. cameras are decidedly right handed with the
grip and shutter button being on the right. my p&s cameras have the setting dial on the right but my dslrs have it on the left. manual zoom (p&s and dslr) is ambidextrous where with an automatic zoom toggle is usually on the right, with the shutter button. having owned at least 30 cameras in the last 40 years, i have not found a left-handed one yet.

25. But don't you agree that there is more fine motor control
needed in focusing than pushing the shutter?

26. with my eyes, i only use autofocus anymore.
however, having one function, important as it is, slanted toward lefties, does not a left-handed instrument make, imo. that's an interesting point, though.

28. Without proper focus, a well timed press of the shutter
means little. Sure the new automatics make them more ambi, but the manual controls like aperture and focus have classically been the duty of the left hand.

27. 99% of guitars are left-handed too.
But they sell them as right-handed for some reason.

Ambidextrousness is really the only way to go.
