Libertarians and libertarian philosophy is just a waste of skin and paper
From Paul to Stossel to Raitigan, all along the continuum

They may give a little space to personal freedoms.. (which I do not buy for a minute.. they do not have the guts to actually stand up for anything but the bottom line of a balance sheet.) but everything else they spit on .. total waste of skin

1. As a "Reality" TV show, Libertarians should be made to run a small town
Make Neal Boortz mayor. Ran Paul can run the hospital. I was going to say name the school after Ayn Rand but then they wouldn't have any of those evil government schools.

8. It could be a for-profit private school
named after Ayn Rand. They like education, but only for those rich enough to pay for it.

12. Here's the disconnect.
I've read Ayn Rand, not just the novels, but her writings.

Rand "would say" (this isn't a quote) that a fully rational person would understand the indirect benefits of having educated people in society, the greater amount of innovation, production of creative works, etc benefits everyone.

So... Let's assume that a 7 year old is too young to take "personal responsibility"...

If a child, for example, is born into poverty, or his parents are "selfish" and spend their money on vacations rather than education for their child, it would still *benefit those with more money* to send those kid(s) to school have via some kind of scholarship or general benefit.

Rand would argue that contributions should be voluntary, however. (see how that works)

..and seeing that the market is self regulating and perfect (cough) those who are at the top are, by logic, those who are the smartest and most rational!

Isn't is easy!?? Now just eliminate taxes for the wealthy! It will all work out...

3. Libertarianism is a cult with beliefs not based in reality.
And not one libertarian isn't a hypocrite.

4.  BINGO... I sat and listened to Stossel one night.. and
I thought.. he is one step away from calling for the abandonment of all people who have needs of any kind.

5. A statement which is just as bad as when they make diragatory statements about liberals
And ultimately serves only to make a bad situation worse.

13. I keep thinking of Bob Altemeyer's book The Authoritarians.
I can't pimp this book enough (no, I don't work for Bob Altemeyer, I just love his book that much.)

Best, it's free on the web!

http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/

Altemeyer's constantly talked about the RWAs, the Right Wing Authoritarians, the classic examples of which are the religious fundamentalists in the GOP who are constantly trying to shove their religion down their throats.

But in his most recent Comment on the Tea Party ( http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/drbob/Comment%20on%20the%20Tea%20Party.pdf ), Dr. Altemeyer tells us about how he sees in libertarians the other strain of the authoritarian equation - the SDOs - those with high levels of Social Dominance Orientation, who work their way up the ladders by stomping on those below them. They looooooooove the law of the jungle, and hate any sort of rules that would actually make things fair.

So yeah, Right Wing Authoritarians in the form of the evangelicals, allied with the Social Dominators in the form of libertarians, that's two great tastes that go great together in the Tea Party... :scared:

15. I always thought of Libertarians as Republicans on steroids.
Haven't really seen or heard an argument to refute that notion.
