UPTON SINCLAIR on Americans' paradoxical views on socialism
The American People will take Socialism, but they won't take the label. I certainly proved it in the case of EPIC. Running on the Socialist ticket I got 60,000 votes, and running on the slogan to "End Poverty in California" I got 879,000. I think we simply have to recognize the fact that our enemies have succeeded in spreading the Big Lie. There is no use attacking it by a front attack, it is much better to out-flank them.

3. With their massive tax cuts socialism only applies to the "rich" in America.
They need the money to create jobs for the under (the rich) class. The so called "service economy" is designed to serve the very wealthy. It is going to take a hungry homeless middle class living in their Suv's and Minivan's to change this picture.

8. it's a miracle that we know his name. the real heroes of history seem to be erased as soon as they
die, if not sooner, like Smedley Butler.

6. Social programs work to prevent a social caste system.
The alternative to not sharing resources is being dominated by a privileged class. I think more basic to this is paternalistic authoritative ideals that predominate in people who simply cannot fathom or want social equality. They do not believe in the commons. The person with the most power, connections and or money have more resources, and therefore must deserve it. This ideology is what is destroying the planet.

Many of us are familiar with the dominionists:

Dominionism, according to Wikipedia: (also called subjectionism) the tendency among some conservative politically active Chrisitans, especially in the US, to seek influence or control over secular civil government through political action--aiming either at a nation governed by Christians, or a nation governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law.

These people have quietly slipped into powerful places. But like Mr. Sinclair points out wisely, a frontal confrontation will not work. But I do not think most Americans want a caste system, so this may be a reframing of the issue in a more basic way. I don't see too much difference between dominionism and a fascist state, but perhaps there are nuances.

This group's agenda is the antithesis to socialism, (and our Republic!) They have a lot of political clout yet are not identified as the threat they are to our Constitution. If we are to confront what exactly stands in the way of social programs, this is definitely one of them IMHO.
