Local cable access show airs pro-wrestler urinating on a Brazilian flag
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 07:40 AM by IanDB1
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- A local pro wrestler's act might have gone a bit too far.

Chris "The Skunk" Antal has become infamous in Brazil after a national TV program aired a video of the Marlborough resident desecrating a Brazilian flag.

In his latest episode of his public access cable show, "Pro Wrestling Monthly," Antal appears to urinate on a Brazilian flag. The video was aired regularly in Marlborough since early January, and became one of Sunday's lead stories on "Fantastico," the Brazilian version of "Inside Edition," with a global audience of about 35 million, said show producers.

Many native and global Brazilians have become outraged, and are wondering how something like that could ever be aired on television, according to reports. Antal said the gesture was part of his character's "shtick" and was blown out of proportion.

Antal is no stranger when it comes to controversial acts, in a 2003 radio interview while running for mayor; he publicly referred to immigrants as an "epidemic."

The local public access channel that runs Antal's program said that they have no power to censor the show unless it depicts obscenity, gambling or violations of state law. State law, however, sets a maximum fine of $50 for anyone who "publicly mutilates, tramples upon, defaces or treats contemptuously" the flag of any country at peace with the United States.

1. Just emulating his mentor, Bush
Obviously a Bush supporter with that type of behavior.

5. It sounds like he claims to just be "playing a character." I don't know...
if that means he doesn't believe what his "character" says, or even if that excuses it.

But consider that not everyone (probably almost no one) who has played a Nazi in a Hollywood movie
actually is a Nazi.

And Stephen Colbert isn't really a right-wing Bill O'Reilly clone.

And Borat isn't really a Jew-hating Kazyk who fucks his prostitute sister.

I don't know enough about this Skunk guy to know what his real motivation is.

But pissing on someone's flag is probably a little over-the-top for playing a pro-wrestling character.

6. I understand that - however, his past history seems to indicate otherwise
Especially the fact that he has expressed in his run for mayor (where he used his notoriety as a wrestler) his disdain for immigrants.

True, I suppose it could all be an act and a very poor one at that, but I somehow believe that this is a typical of the rabid right wing (or the 28%).

7. Were his anti-immigrant comments made "in character" or not?
In other words, is he Borat or Toranto?

2. I wonder how much they would be upset
if they were fined half a million dollars for airing it ...

3. Let's see, if you piss on a flag, you would have to whip it out, right.
By default exposing one's genitalia on our airwaves is considered "obscene". Yet the station is saying they can't censor this? Riiiiiiight. Just more xenophobia on parade:crazy:

What has this guy got against Brazil anyway:shrug:

How is peeing on TV not obscene?
