Revolution in the air
Revolution in the air
by Brent Budowsky | August 10, 2010 - 9:39am

Time is short. The stakes are enormous. The nation is angry. The jobs are dying. The mood is depressed. Democrats must get off their knees and fight. They should cancel the week of recess before Labor Day, go to the floor of Congress and fight for American jobs, rally the party base, and go to the country with a campaign worthy of the Democratic Party.

I am fed up with the lack of fight, lack of spirit, lack of energy and lack of cojones of a party that must renew its right to call itself the party of the people, and renew its fight to stand up for the hardworking, law-abiding, good-hearted patriotic men and women who have been shut out of the corridors of power for far too long.

I stand with the vast majority of Americans, who believe that Washington has become a fossilized town that is sickeningly out of touch with an America that hungers for leaders who lead, a Congress that acts and a president who stops telling voters they need teachable moments from him and starts listening to what voters, including many of his friends, are telling him.

The president has gone rogue. And Democrats. And Republicans. And everyone in this capital with eyes that don't see and ears that don't hear what an unhappy nation is telling them. Voters pray for action, but all they hear is self-praise from those who don't listen, and all they see is vanity and self-indulgence from those who don't care.

The American economy is becoming a factory of economic unfairness. Those whose greed almost caused a depression make giant fortunes, demand gargantuan bailouts and gorge on gluttonous bonuses paid for by hard-hit Americans who find their jobs destroyed, their hopes crushed, their dignity insulted and their voices silenced.

I wondered what had happened to Brent; he used to be a guest on Air America radio shows quite often in 2008.

6. How can anyone not predict

that a public who is continuously disenfranchised will eventually rebel? Tea baggers on the right liberals on the left are increasingly feeling alienated.

People explode when they are not being heard. Maybe they lack spelling skills, or take out their anger on their neighbors or whoever is handy to them, but underneath it all they want to be respected for their opinion.

To light a fire you have to know how to control it, and during these volatile times, it is not a good idea to light a match, IMHO. Peaceful demonstrations and peaceful strikes after the election are great ideas, to channel all the stress and anger somewhere. Make sure our voices are heard online if not anywhere else.

I think organization and strategy are missing from the Democratic Party, now of all times, in an election season. We have got to win in the Fall, support President Obama in a way that respects what he has done for this country so far. Then after the election it would be a good idea to push for FDRs 2nd bill of rights to start with. That would truly be a beacon of hope to everyone. Just my 2 cents of diplomacy here :)

edited to add: Thank you unhappycamper, I wanted to clarify my response is a general one, not specifically aimed at you or anyone. :hi:

7. Holy shit. That said it so well:

11. Yes.
Poorly written or not, passion is important, even critical, no matter what direction one will go in.

14. You are more than welcome to break it down for us. Also, go ahead and
write something more than one sentence so we can see how you write something that is not "poorly written empty rhetoric".
