A Win for Warren? Mistaking a Nomination for an Appointment
Marcy Wheeler (emptywheel) cautions against premature celebration over rumos that Obama is ready to nominate Elizabeth Warren as head of the consumer agency, and calls for a recess appointment instead of Senate vote. Excerpt:

"After all, given what happened with Dawn Johnsen, a rumored nomination is a long shot from getting the position. Especially in the wake of Obama’s recess appointment of Donald Berwick to run Medicare, ostensibly because the health care reform bill presented some urgency that necessitated a recess appointment.

How is fixing our financial system less of an emergency? How, given the number of people still underwater on their mortgages, is this not critically urgent?"

1. Marcy's freak out last night on Twitter regarding Warren's nomination was a perfect example of what
Gibbs was talking about - she turned a positive into a negative in about 5 seconds.

A fight for Elizabeth Warren's confirmation is GREAT POLITICS headed into the mid-term elections.

Let the Republicans try to filibuster a huge consumer advocate. It shows how they are on the side of Wall Street and Big Business and Democrats are on the side of regular people.

Nominating Elizabeth Warren is great POLICY and POLITICS.

I bet if Obama had done a recess appointment for Warren then Marcy would have bitched that he missed a huge political opportunity to nail the Republicans going into an election.

Some people act like they need outrage to survive just like they need oxygen and water.

4. After online pundits spent weeks campaigning for Warren,
which I thought was a bizarre crusade to begin with since there are plenty of good progressives who could do the job, FDL is now complaining about it?

Yes, that proves Gibbs point very well. Its suggests that a person has ideological or psychological reasons for complaining about Obama no matter what he does.

3. Why was Dawn Johnsen defeated?
Doesn't it bother you that her chances of not being voted in are good?
