Remember this clown?
One of those professional liberals--purely crazy, ya know. Wanted Canada-style health care, wanted to shave the Pentagon down to a triangle...

Using a dead man.... one who argued AGAINST the Green Party... one who would have been likely one of Obama's biggest supporters... an unabashed liberal who was 100% Democrat....

Pretty low.

Bring out Ted Kennedy's picture next.

Nah, even you know that he was one of Obama's biggest supporters and drafted most of the HCR law that Obama signed.

I want the same things he wanted. My old Volvo station wagon has a Wellstone! sticker on its rear window.

He was also a solid Democrat, who supported the party. He would be 100% behind President Obama, just like Ted Kennedy was.

32. I think you're right.
He would see no gain to be made for his causes and ideals in publicly opposing Obama. His positions would be Deanesque. But then he was a Senator, and I'm not. If I were, I would have a very different public stance than the one I express here. But I'm not. I sincerely hope that the noises people like me make will have effects on Obama's positions. I voted for him and expect I will do so again, but I would be happier if his positions were further to the left.

35. You make an excellent point.
"But then he was a Senator, and I'm not. If I were, I would have a very different public stance than the one I express here."

This is something we probably all need to remember. A Senator or House Member has to represent his or her entire state or congressional district, not just one group's point of view. The ones who forget that are out of office at the next election. I agree, too, that I wish President Obama pushed harder for progressive ideals. Still, I also understand that getting legislation that moves in that direction through the Congress is a really, really tough job just now. I don't envy him his job...attacked from all sides for either not doing enough or for doing too much.

Such is political reality. As you so clearly said, folks who are holding an office often have to take positions that do something, instead of positions that can't be enacted. It's the nature of our system.

Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 12:18 PM by geek tragedy
never sought to demean, degrade, or insult anyone with whom he disagreed.

His passion was matched by his class.

He would be the last person to utter the "Obama is a corporatist sellout like Bush" crap.

He thrived in that role. So, he was never going to be the establishment like Obama is.

My older brother was on the same team. I was in junior high then but met him many times.

This post makes me a little sad remembering him.
