In something like this all you can say is I hope he died when he fell. The thought of him spending a few weeks down there is horrible.

1. Your comment reminds of something that happened back home.
2 guys were stripping the copper from abandoned rural houses. They went missing. A couple of weeks later someone sees their truck by an old house and calls the police. Inside they find that the two had fallen through the floor and into the water cistern underneath. What a horrible way to go.

3. Next question: Did he fall or was he pushed?
Either way I hope his death was quick, as you hoped.

4. Well, that is a good point too, he could have been murdered and dumped there.
35 years? If the police treat this as a homicide, you know the most usueless office guy will be assigned to it so he has something to do.

5. No one reported him missing?
The brief article didn't mention if anyone had reported him missing. Apparently he had no kin at all.

Strange.

7. The up side is that he now gets to haunt a well.
This is a much more romantic way to spend eternity than scaring people from a cistern.

9. Hmmm....I heard a story "Man in the Well" on this American Life...

Listening to the episode "The Cruelty of Children" makes this news story particularly chilling imagining it playing out for real.

Listen after the David Sedaris piece.
