Yarmuth critical of White House economic team
By BRUCE SCHREINER - Associated Press Writer

<snip>

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Democratic U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth lashed out at President Barack Obama's economic team Thursday, saying they show more concern for Wall Street than average Americans in a blunt election-year assessment from an Obama loyalist frustrated by a tepid economic recovery.

What started out as a bashing of Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell by union activists, who pressed for more public transportation projects, shifted gears briefly when Yarmuth took aim at Obama's inner circle of economic aides.

"I'm not real happy with our economic team in the White House," Yarmuth said. "They think it's more important that Goldman Sachs make money than that you make money. And that's where we've got to change the attitude of this country."

Afterward, Yarmuth lamented "a sense of floundering and indecisiveness" by Obama's administration in trying to revitalize the economy from a deep recession causing stubbornly high unemployment.

"I think we have an opportunity to really regain the confidence of the American people if we show here's where we're going to go and why," Yarmuth said in an interview. "I don't think the administration's done that yet."

30. Interesting. We have a long-time real journalist running against McSame in AZ.
Maybe making journalists politicians is a good trend...
Good luck to him, and you.

31. You guys too for sure. Right now things look solid here, last poll John was up 23 point
We have a punchers chance for the Senate seat too, unfortunately the smaller cities and rural areas aren't as reasonable as Louisville or even Lexington.

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth is starting his second re-election bid with a 23-point lead over his nearest challenger, Republican Todd Lally, a new cn|2 Poll on Kentucky’s 3rd Congressional District shows.

The two-term congressman, who was first elected in 2006, received support from  52.1 percent of respondents compared to Lally’s 28.9 percent.
About 1.4% picked independent candidate Michael Hansen  and 0.4% said they’d vote for Libertarian candidate Ed Martin. Another 17% enter the fall undecided.

The survey of 502 likely voters in Jefferson County was conducted Aug. 9 and 10 by interviewers from Braun Research Inc., a Princeton, N.J., firm. It has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points. Click here to look at the detailed results and the cross-tabs.

Yarmuth said in a phone interview that the poll numbers were “encouraging.”

Edited on Sat Aug-14-10 05:15 PM by Subdivisions
in the whole wide world! They are honest and upstanding citizens who sacrifice their own wants and needs and families to serve our President in a most honorable way! Geithner and Summers are economic GODS! How can anyone think otherwise? I just don't understand how anyone could not trust these men! They really care about us and everyone should be grateful to them for bringing our economy back from the brink!

Kentucky: A Playbook for Red State Dems
It would pay to run against Obama in red state.

Kentucky: A Playbook for Red State Dems

"Economy is going to be the overriding issue, and the challenge any Democrat is going to be to separate themselves from Obama's policies," says Al Cross, a veteran Kentucky political observer who now teaches at the University of Kentucky. "We got a saying down here, you gotta get the talk right. There is no talk for . There's just no resistance to this anti-Obama mantra that you find coming from Republicans and Fox News."

National Democratic strategists agree. Schultz says that Coakley's Senate campaign failure came in part because of her focus on the legacy of late Sen. Ted Kennedy and President Barack Obama's health-care plan, not on her record as a crusading attorney general who held corporate interests accountable. In an anti-incumbent climate, Democratic candidates need to cast themselves as agents of accountability, not part of a movement.

It's hardly surprising that a Red State Dem would run against Obama.

12. Your OP is about a Kentucky Dem, of course it's growing in Kentucky
Edited on Sat Aug-14-10 06:08 PM by SunsetDreams
Obama is less popular in Kentucky than he is Nationally.
It's a red state, so of course it pays to be Anti-all things Obama.

On a larger scale, that is not the case.

Public favors Obama’s economic policies over Bush’s by wide margin.

Public favors Obama’s economic policies over Bush’s by wide margin.
As congressional Republicans double down on President Bush’s failed economic policies, a new National Journal/Pew Research poll finds that Americans believe President Obama’s “policies offer a better chance at improving the economy over the policies of his predecessor.” Interestingly, more Democrats favor Obama’s policies than Republicans favor Bush’s, while independents overwhelming side with Obama. Overall, despite continued tough economic times, 46 percent of Americans say Obama’s policies will do more to improve the economy, compared to just 29 percent who say the same of Bush’s:

The poll also found that only 30 percent of Americans support retaining all the Bush tax cuts, while a similar portion believe they should all be allowed to expire. Twenty-seven percent favor repealing the tax cuts for wealthy, while maintaining the rest, as the Obama administration has proposed

As a matter of fact, I'll bet that most DUers who agree with the sentiments of Yarmuth aren't from Kentucky either.

22. While that has some possible merit. You're off base here. Obama won in the 3rd district
by more than the national average. 56% Obama is not teabag central and John is no conservadem trying to get by pretending he is a Republican.

He maybe would be passing out ammo by joining the progressive caucus at least until he is more established after all those Northup (Corporate whore and Bush lackey) terms but voting with them for the most part is okay.

23. Obama is a Trickle Down acolyte
Now I understand all of this administration's seemingly idiotic policies.

Bail out the banks, the auto corps, try to get small banks to loan to small businesses. It all makes sense. Obama and his team are devout followers of the failed religion of Trickle Down Economics.

One problem: trickle down doesn't. Never has and never will.
