1. It's not officially over until August 31, so I think we should drink non-stop until then. nt

5. Not me.
50,000 troops remaining ... for what? Forever?

Billions and billions of dollars a year more spent there?

Celebrate what? A name change?

6. (sigh) Whatever. I'm happy there are only 50,000 left
Edited on Wed Aug-18-10 10:56 PM by DainBramaged
but I guess you're just a full cup only kind of guy.

I keep thinking about what Drill Sergeant R. Lee Ermey says to his patient in the Geico commercial.

But you and many others missed the point completely, it's the END of Booshe's Operation Iraqi Freedom Mission.

It's now Obama's war for better or worse. He has to end it completely. And I hope he does. Until then, welcome back soldiers.

16. That one is more or less set in stone
again, the reason why that brigade crossed the border today is that SOFA. We leaving in 2011 is also part of the SOFA.

22. stones can be crushed...
I really doubt we'll ever be out of Iraq...our embassy is far too big there, for one tiny reason...

23. Yep, why they crossed the critical line of pulling out combat troops
AHEAD of schedule.

I know people can and are skeptical... but there are a few reasons that we will be out of both Iraq and Afghanistan... the EMPIRE is no longer sustainable and it is costing way too much.

But by 2011 troops will finally pull out. What we will leave behind is a good question, but the US Military WILL pull out.

26. Unless they "ask" us to stay??
“I think we have an agreement with the Iraqis that both governments have agreed to, that we will be out of Iraq at the end of 2011,” he (Gates) said. “If a new government is formed there and they want to talk about beyond 2011, we’re obviously open to that discussion. But that initiative will have to come from the Iraqis.” Robert Gates in “US Military Prepares to Leave Iraq, But May Stay If Asked”, Voice of America (VOA), Aug 12

20. I'll believe it when I see it.
After all, we still have thousands of troops still in Germany and that war ended ... how many decades ago?

24. They are not out there on patrol right?
and you KNOW why we have those troops there right? (Read the NATO charters and the requirements under NATO)

Granted, every time there are exercises we pay a pretty penny to repair whatever damage we cause.

17. Me, at least in spirit if not spirits.
However, I have been switching my remote between the stations and it seems like it's not going to be reported on by anyone except Keith and Rachel. Fixed News doesn't seem to know it happened. I believe it will be ignored until the right propaganda spin arrives from the Pentagon and the State Department onto Gibb's desk. It's just history happening that will be ignored by those who are supposed to record it.

25. President Obama has kept one major promise
now, we just have to hope the other 50,000 are out by next year. And hope he leaves Aftrashcanistan, because the war machine needs war, and maybe we'll have time to breathe before they start one in Iran.
