Mary Cheney, the openly gay first daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, gave hundreds of dollars in campaign contributions to a Senate candidate who opposes same-sex marriage, records show.

Cheney gave $500 on April 1 to Kelly Ayotte, a Republican 2010 Senate candidate from New Hampshire, according to the election records database Newsmeat. Ayotte is seeking to fill the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Judd Gregg.

Ayotte told the Concord Monitor last August that she is “against same-sex marriage and believes marriage is between a man and a woman,” the paper reported.

Cheney, 41, lives in Virginia with her longtime partner Heather Poe and their two children. Her donation to the “Friends of Kelly Ayotte” PAC is particularly noteworthy in light of her outspoken advocacy for same-sex marriage.

1. Nothing personal, just business
Mary Cheney knows that as the child of privilege, she will be indulged no matter what she does. Worrying about the power and apparatus of government being turned against a person simply for being who they are it something for other people. Nobody would ever dare to release the hounds on the daugher of Dick Cheney, and she knows it. As for other gay people? They should have chosen their parents more wisely.
