I've been here since this place opened. I rarely post anymore. Life is hard for a disabled veteran, but I still make it here every quarter to donate because I believe, without this place I would have lost my mind back in 2001 knowing my country was going down the tubes.

Btw, typing on iPad late night can get pretty frustrating

and the economy is what is keeping donations down.

DU has changed and DU will continue to change, nothing's going to stop that and it's perfectly healthy to do so.

However, that's not what has people holding onto the brass. The economy, threatened jobs, lost jobs, debt, and every other lousy thing most folks have to deal with these days has them reluctant to donate a dime they don't absolutely have to in order to keep that star.

Figuring out who has the problem is halfway to solving it. This time the problem is neither Skinner's nor his site's.

It's just the gift that keeps on giving, the conservative dogma that crashed the economy. Again.

Thanks for this thread. I would have been a much happier person in 2001 and the dark years to follow, had I known about DU.

HORRIBLE. Worst era I had ever witnessed, and I came of age in the early '70's.

ABSOLUTE worst, unless you count the glenn beck/teabagger era now. Last decade, most of America was willfully asleep. This decade something woke the worst of them up and sent them on a real bender of a rampage. It's like they drank themselves into oblivion during the bush era (musta been the spiked Kool-aid) and then woke up in 2009 dreadfully hung over and all pissed off about it, now searching for someone else to blame their own recklessness on. Difference is - they don't have rich well-connected daddies to pick up the phone and pull a string with his pals to get his idiot kid outta trouble (jail, the draft, bankruptcy court, rehab, fill-in-the-blank-here, etc.). So they're just angry and acting out like spoiled, poorly-raised brats.

Maybe some music might help :kick:
