How do we continue to be duped by the right wing corporate machine
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 10:01 AM by Speed8098
I just don't understand it. We progressives have the common good in mind and the republicans only care about themselves. We know this to be true, as a matter of fact we've known it to be true for many years.
The stimulus isn't working as well as it should because the right wing CEO's and Boards of Directors want Republican rule. Just like Reagan was able to keep the hostages in Iran until after his election, the corporate shills are holding out on using the stimulus package to it's fullest advantage until they have republican rule. My question is why we let them get away with it.
Where's my public option in health care reform? Oh, wait, the minority didn't want it so the minority stomped their feet and cried until they go what they wanted. Now the insurance companies are going to continue to get paid BIG TIME.
Why has my minimum payment on my credit cards skyrocketed over the last year? Oh, wait, the right wingers figured out a way around the new legislation that keeps them from raising your interest rate on a whim so now they raise your minimum payment on a whim.
When are we going to smarten up and disallow donations to politicians campaigns from corporations that need that politician to deregulate whatever their business may be.
I believe all campaign donations should come from individuals only with a cap on the amount allowed per household, not person, but household. Level the playing field and we might see the end of career politicians and begin to see Congress/Government as the founding fathers meant it to be. Simple Americans solving the problems of AMERICA. we are not the world police nor should we be and I believe the unrest we see around the world would begin to lessen if we as a country begin to lose some of our arrogance and regain some of our humility.
We are all human beings on this earth and we should all remember that not one of us is better than the other. Money does not make you better than your fellow man, it only makes you luckier.

1. Not true, if money was because of luck.
Then why are people trained to be ruthless to get it?

It is not luck but free will choices after much training.

It's not training, it's a sin and it's called greed.

While I believe in some sort of higher power I am anything but a fundie, as a matter of fact I am against organized religion in general but there is one verse I do believe in:

"It shall be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it shall be for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven"

4. What's your problem?
You got a beef with me because I'm sick and tired of the right wing assholes in this country lying to the bumpkins that don't know any better, or are you just trying to pick a fight?

If it's a fight you want, bring it because politically I'm pissed and I'm pissed at the corporate shills in Congress who I fought to put there. I'm tired of having my Presidents hand slapped every time he reaches acrossed the aisle. I'm tired of the blatent hypocrisy shown by the right wing, so if it's a political battle you're asking for, make sure you come fully loaded with FACTS, because I am.

As I said, which you chose to ignore is that I believe organized religion is the root of ALL evil we have in this world. I may not have used those exact words but at the time when I posted reguarly at DU, members understood implications, which you clearly do not. Now take your "Nothing is impossible with God." inference to my conversation and stick it where the sun don't shine.

If you want to discuss politics as a mature adult, fine, if you want to continue on the track you're on, I'm out.

12. Book of James "Warning to the Rich"
The Holy Bible: King James Version. 2000.

The General Epistle of James Chapter 5

Warning to the Rich
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Mt. 6.19
4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sab'a-oth. Deut. 24.14, 15
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

5. Without real campaign finance reform our country is doomed.
The Reform Party in the 1990s would have stopped the current system where only the rich or whores of the rich are allowed to run for office. But instead of people changing the way elections are bought they kept voting for the two corrupt major parties. Granny D, who spoke at the first Reform Party convention, walked across the country for campaign finance reform.

The Green Party also believes in strict financing laws. But the republicans and democrats who control our government and country have no intention of reforming the way we finance elections. They love the current corrupt system because they benefit from it and neither major party could care less about representing the people. They like the whoredom they created and are always eager to sell out the people to their corrupt corporate pimps.

And people will keep remaining loyal to those who are victimizing them. I wonder if Americans will ever wake up and begin to vote for THEIR interests instead of being lambs willingly going to a slaughterhouse.

9. Campaigns should be financed by the government - equal
money and equal time for candidates running for the same positions.
In the final analysis this comes out of tax-payers' pockets anyway.
No other support allowed, not even spending one's own money, since
this would favor the rich.

Yes, we are heading in the direction of a Third World Nation.

Very well said.
I'm tired of corporations commandeering our government.

14. I have the same fear
I wonder if Americans will ever wake up and begin to vote for THEIR interests instead of being lambs willingly going to a slaughterhouse.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will cast their vote for the candidate that will do nothing for them, but promise to help the rich which will trickle down to help them economically.

I am not yelling at you so please don't think so but.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO QUIT BEING SO GODDAMN GULLIBLE??????

We need to have term limits, salary caps, and I mean make it a stipend. Congress is supposed to be a part time civil obligation that patriots want to fill, not a roadway to riches as it is now. I'm a Democrat and I believe in progressive ideals but I am sick and tired of the liars we keep sending to government. There should be a mandatory polygraph as a requirement to run for national office. :patriot:

6. Psychological manipulation.
The same reason I was a loyal Obama fanboy until I realized he was a Center-Right corporatist. Propaganda works.

7. I am not yet willing to give up hope that he is not one of them.
At any rate, I'd choose him over anyone the Neocons can offer up. It's not saying much, is it?

Nor am I. I keep hoping for the proverbial rabbit to be pulled out of his hat. I hope he pulls it soon because the less informed of his base are quickly abandoning ship.:scared:

8. One of the top reasons is that the right-wingers own 90% of the
news media, and their non-stop pounding propaganda can change lies into truth in some people's minds.

13. This is a basic truth
As long as we have a corporate media we will have a an uninformed electorate. Simply removing them from donations with their dough will not do any good in my opinion since they still have their minions of Madison Avenue to spin and sell whatever they do under the ruse of free markets. Look at what the fascist have accomplished with the think tanks like Cato Institute, heritage Foundation etc. Besides how does one differentiate between advertising and political speech? Without an advertisement free media
we are at a huge disadvantage. A simple example is the oil companies. Advertising doesn't sell more oil but it sure keeps the news friendly.
