McCartney serenades the Big Dog on his 64th birthday
Edited on Sun Aug-22-10 08:52 AM by bigtree
2010-08-22

Former President Bill Clinton was treated to a musical surprise on his 64th birthday - Sir Paul McCartney called him up to serenade him. The Democrat was delighted after picking up the phone to hear the Beatles legend on the line after reaching the age on Thursday (19Aug10).

And he was stunned when McCartney began an impromptu rendition of the Beatles' 1967 love song, When I'm Sixty-Four.

A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Sir Paul knows Bill is a huge fan of the Fab Four and instantly agreed to ring him. Well, it's not every day you can get on the line to a former President.

"But Bill was even more over the moon when he heard him - and couldn't believe it when he started singing When I'm Sixty-Four . . . Bill's been a fan his whole life. He loves Macca's solo stuff, too. So they chatted for ages."

You can't even post anything nice anymore without someone crapping on it. I hope you have a wonderful day. You made mine.

3. Here is a K&R for your OP. I've been a McCartney fan since 1/64.
You know, it's funny how somebody who has been at DU for so long and has comparatively so few posts would choose to use one of the rare responses to stick it to a nice Sunday morning thread. I didn't realize it was that important.

4. Wonderful, wonderful...two of my heroes!
I will shortly cease to be 64, and I've had that song on my mind all year long. It's nice to know that there are still wise, good, kind, and thoughtful people like Sir Paul and President Clinton left on earth, and a big "thank you" for posting this. It really made my morning. :hi:

6. It's a great love song - and here are the lyrics.
I got to hear Sir Paul live in concert last week - and he's in great shape and in great voice. Hearing McCartney sing, I felt the cynicism & stress of today's tough times melting away - and for a little while found myself believing in true love again, like I did back in 1964!

Lucky Big Dog, to get a private performance!

When I'm Sixty Four (64)
~ The Beatles

When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now.
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine.

If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

You'll be older too,
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.

I could be handy, mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.

Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

Every summer we can rent a cottage,
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck & Dave

Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, wasting away

Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four.

12. Two poor boys who rose to the top of their fields of endeavor
No money to spare in the McCartney household when he was growing up, no money to spare in Bill's household. Both of them were talented, driven, willing to work, and both managed to reach the height of their ambition, and they seem to be fans of each other. Both made superbly successful first marriages. McCartney turned 68 in June, and Bill has turned 64. To Bill: thanks for the eight years of peace and prosperity, and for the budget surplus as you left office. To Paul: thanks for dang near 50 years of superb music.

Neither one of them spends much time bashing his enemies verbally. Both of them focus on what can be done, not what can't.

Just saying.

It's life-affirming to read such positve thoughts. I was really starting to feel that the human race in general is dead emotionally (except for anger of course).

Just channeling that shitbag Jay Leno for a moment....
