This young ultra-conservative tech was in my office area
working on the surveillance system. he goes about the upgrades and I do my work. he looks at my computer screen and sees an image of the 9-11 rubble and the quotes of Mike Moran's speech at the Concert for NYC.

He nonchalantly asks: So, what do you think of the Mosque at ground zero?

I tell him that I have no problem with it, as the Muslims as a whole are a peaceful group and have a right to worship in America.

He says: They were not so peaceful on 9-11 I have a problem with it!

I throw this at him:
Then you have to agree that we need to close all catholic schools and bar their churches from being near schools due to the rampant child rape by priests. You also must have a problem with the "Christians" who murdered abortion providers and bombed their clinics in the name of God!

He mutters; I have a problem with the rape and he shuts up.

Don't ever mildly accept such comments
It is not necessary to get angry, but it is necessary to state that you don't agree with their premise, whether it be war in Iraq or any other belief. Don't ever accept sand being kicked in the face of your beliefs without at least a comment that you disagree.

5. Many righties in my area know me and are generally scared to ask
me much. So I'm still waiting for that question. When they do ask me, I plan to say I support the 1st amendment because I'm an American.

7. One of the guys under me keeps referring to me as a lefty to him
and today he took his shot.
My "underling" failed to mention I shut him up when on a anti-union rant and "hand-out rant", I asked him if he took the Family Medical Leave benefit when his son was born or did he refuse it as a hand out. i also asked him if he planned to stop taking vacations since our vacation benefits are based on what the unionized departments get at our hospital. He shut up too.

9. They generally are unprepared
They keep spewing one liners, often actually trying to change the topic. They usually aren't used to having their ideas and one liners challenged in even the most superficial ways. They usually don't come back.

10. You are so right. I challenged the co-worker to tell me in his
own words why he opposed something, to not use one republican catch-phrase or talking point. he had to frame his arguement completely in his own words. He couldn't. I told him I hadn't met a conservative at work yet who didn't read anything but Rush Limbaugh's and Glenn Beck's lips.

12. Strangely I met one that could
He could speak in his own words, not just those of popular entertainers. Now, for all I know he was speaking of some minor characters of which I was unfamiliar. But once again, although he could explain what he opposed, he could not explain why. He'd offer up some lame expression, and as soon as I'd challenge the basis of his opposition, he'd merely respond "well, that's what I believe".

13. Ask if he's going to work an extra 10 hours this week...
Because the labor unions got us the 40 hour work week.

Hypocrites are fun to play with when they aren't being totally mean.

15. Gosh, how partisan of you!
Why didn't you just give up your rights so as not to confuse or inconvenience the nutjob? He has a right to his own stupid, uninformed opinion, you know! Why are you so intolerant of his ignorance, you librul?! Arrest my case.
