Democrat woos tea partiers
Source: Dubuque Telegraph Herald

GALENA, Ill. -- When Democratic congressional candidate George Gaulrapp stood in front of the Jo Daviess Tea Party on Thursday, he wasn't stepping in front of a firing squad.

Despite his party affiliation, the mayor of Freeport, Ill., had a polite and sometimes lively discussion at Boone's Place in Galena. Gaulrapp, who is challenging Republican incumbent Don Manzullo, described himself as a "very conservative Democrat." He's addressed tea party groups in Rockford and Huntley, Ill. Gaulrapp said he enjoys talking to members and sometimes walks away with a few pledged voters.

Gaulrapp said he decided to run for Congress because the federal government is spending too much money and too many people are out of work.

"Our problems occur at the federal level," he said. "Government has interfered so much with the free market; it's not a free market anymore."

I wonder who this Gaulrapp thinks the teabaggers are going to vote for come November? If he's thinking that it'll be him I've got bridges and swampland I'd like to sell him.

1. ... based on his comments, i think he's on the wrong ticket ...
... sounds like a GOP plant with his 'free market' rants. There isn't, and hasn't been, a truly FREE market in this country in about 30 years. Anyone with any sense (usually not Republicans) knows this.

3. +1
Just what I was thinking. As the Republican party continues to implode, we can expect more of this, I fear.

6. Yes, MANY more like him --
and Rahm will welcome them with open arms and the Left further marginalized. :puke: It used to be that both Parties had conservatives, moderates, and liberals. In recent years the GOP only has ultra conservatives and the insane, pushing everyone to the left of John Birch to the Dems.

7. Maybe it's OUR southern strategy.
But I'd rather re-fight the civil war than
be co-opted by a bunch of hypocritical "boot-strappers".

Really.

4. Delusional.
Teabaggers are republicans. They won't vote for a Democrat, even if he's running against John McCain.
