Muslim 9/11 Debate Is off the Mark: The Real Problem Is Fundamentalism of Every Kind

Here's the real point: fundamentalist religion OF ALL KINDS - Muslim, Christian, Hindu, whatever, is the enemy of peace and progress.

Is Islam violent? Should there be a mosque at Ground Zero…. etc., etc…

Wrong questions-- bogus discussion!

Here's the real point: fundamentalist religion OF ALL KINDS - Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, whatever, is the enemy of peace and progress.

3. actually, even that's a bit off -- it's violent extremism, not necessarily religious
religion can certainly be (ab)used as an element of a violent extremist organization, as a tool for acceptance, control, recruitment, and a framework for understanding what might otherwise be incomprehensible.

but it's entirely possible for extremist organization to exist in the absence of religion and quite arguably, the underlying motivations and causes are invariably far more polticial and economic than religious.

5. absolute truth
Fundamentalism as "strict conformity to sacred texts" is either a mental disorder (individual) or a cultural disorder.

Fundamentalism is a refusal to understand history and the sciences. Healthy, educated people understand mythology and history and psychology. Humans have always had to create meaning in their lives and understandably so. Cultures created African, Greek and Roman mythology, Buddhism, Christianity, the Islamic faith, Judaism, etc., etc...

There is a time and place for everything and it is time for us to live in the 21st century with the knowledge that exists now

6. The TaliBaptists are HERE, not in the M.E.
They've already infiltrated the heartland.
