I ditched my mega-bank today and joined the CU.
I feel so good about this.

Ms. Megabank lady asked why and I told her I was appalled at the behavior of the big banks over the last few years. She said she understood.

So I took my millions (I WISH!) last week to the Delta Community Credit Union and opened accounts there.

I wish everyone would invest in their local CU's.

11. Does your CU participate in Privileged Status?
The bank I go through (which is a locally owned institution) participates in the Privileged Status network. That means there's no fees at any ATM of any institution that participates in the program. That works out great for me because I travel quite a bit for work and a lot of times I don't have to eat ATM fees because my bank's not in the locations I travel to.

8. Good news - for now. Up next,
de-regulation of the Credit Unions.

They haven't been looted yet.

10. Got some of my cash in a CU too...feels good
to know I'm helping to support local people.

Also, I applied for a credit card through my local bank and will only be using my Chase card two or three times a year for small purchases. I don't want to close it because the more available credit one has, the better it looks on the credit report.

14. Congratulations!
You did youself a big favor which will be felt for years to come. I got my folks out of BofA into my credit union, and they're happy, too. Now if thousands and thousands more people follow suit...well, who know? Maybe the big banks aren't too big to fail after all.
