Conway sends e-mail to fundraise, demand Simpson be fired

The Democratic nominee vying to fill Sen. Jim Bunning's seat in Kentucky sent out a fundraising email Saturday calling for former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) to step down as co-chairman of President Obama's deficit reduction commission.

Simpson raised the ire of women's groups by speaking about Social Security in a way that Conway, who face Rand Paul in November, said should "absolutely disqualify" him from the panel chairmanship he shares with Erskine Bowles.

"If you haven't heard, Chairman Simpson sent a sneering email to the executive director of the Older Women's League calling the most effective anti-poverty program in our nation's history 'a milk cow with 310 million tits,'" Conway said in the e-mail.

"Rather than use offensive language to make headlines, Chairman Simpson should recognize that he serves as a distraction to the rest of the group and step down."

At least one Democrat is trying to make lemonade out of Obama's big lemon.
