I don't believe that at this moment we have the kind of pressure that could be deployed to make a difference. There's too much evidence to the contrary.

35. I agree
when they were voting for the $700 Billion crooked banker bailout the public lit up the phone banks in new record numbers against the bailout. It didn't make a damn bit of difference. I called multiple times to all my reps and others. They didn't care.

Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 08:59 PM by dflprincess
both by groups (like AARP - which usually gets heard) and by individuals.

The problem is, Fox News and Limbaugh weren't complaining. The administration doesn't have to listen to us because it just doesn't believe people will stay home or go somewhere else in November.
(And no, I'm not staying home. Fortunately, the DFL has a good progressive candidate running for governor and I have a couple other local races to vote in but the only national seat I have to vote in is the Congressional district race and I will vote for the Democrat in that one as underwhelming as he is).

14. Just on election day...
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 07:05 AM by Hubert Flottz
That's the only time anyone in Washington ever cared what you think...and now that your input into the election process has been neutralized by crooked voting machines and crooked just-asses, YOU ain't even number two.

They don't have social security in China and they don't sit around and whine! If they would, they'd be taken out and "re-educated."

Every day the working class American's standard of living is chopped down a notch, while the top dogs get a raise, a bonus, a tax break and a title.

Are the "Leaders" in DC worried about you spending your golden years in a large cardboard box under the bridge to the 21 century? They don't have time today, or next week, to trouble their "beautiful minds" about the world of shit that they've created for the boys and girls who faithfully paid their FICA dues.

If you think shit creek smelt bad so far...wait until you go over the falls!(slip into your Golden Years)

20. Yeah, That "So It Could Be Worse" Comment Wore Out A Long Time Ago
for many of us. I have talked and talked and tried to organize and keep in the loop about what I see happening, but the reply I get... ALMOST EVERY TIME, it this "What're ya gonna do?"

Apathy & Cynicism is carrying the day, and a once GREAT country seems to have seen it's day! ONCE, people organized and cared for "we the people" just enough to where we banded together against TPTB! Now, when I talk as an activist, and what the Tea-Baggers are doing, I'm hearing the same response!

So, Tea-Baggers get MUCHO coverage for what they did, and yet Democrats marched many times! So therefore, we are now faced with the APATHY of Democrats who feel that Revolution IS NOT an option! But other countries such as Mexico have at least TRIED to gather together to protest, and we hear about it, even here in America! Latinos come out in droves to protest the ugliness of immigration, and yet Democrats just "follow the leader!"

And our very own Democrats are such a whiny bunch, almost afraid of their own shadow and actually VOTE AGAINST of so much that used to be the very essence of a Democratic Party! And we remain silent behind our PC's!! And those of us who might actually disagree with this administration are called to task for even daring to voice concerns!

I still blog, but I think it's because it's my ONLY way to show my outrage! Outrage that too many people simply don't want to hear! The base of the Democratic Party has been vilified by some of our very own, and yet we are supposed to walk lockstep behind all that is going on, even if it seems "not quite right!"

It's such a downer so much of the time, and yet we sit SILENT!! I have no answers, I've worked hard locally and nationally so many times in the past, but now my candle is pretty much BURNED OUT!!

What will be, will be... I mean "what are ya gonna do?" We can't win because the POWER is too big to fight. If you're religious (I once was) I wonder what DAVID would be saying today as he went against Goliath??

Maybe, he would just sit down and cry, because he realized he was beaten BEFORE he began! But hey, I'm ONLY ONE person who tried for so many years to keep THAT candle burning... still my flame has dimmed to ashes!!

JMHO!!

49. I KNOW They Count On It... Still, Not To Belabor The Point... What's
really happening. We are still sitting here and blogging away. Where I live, I don't get much chance to "throw the bums out" because the candidates are either the same OR WORSE!!

Looking at the Senate race here in Florida is a nightmare for me! I'm NOT happy with Meek, he doesn't seem strong enough to take anyone on. He's basically a "blue-dog" and I think many of us know what the "blue-dogs" have done! So then the next issue is HOW DO WE KEEP RUBIO OUT??

If Meek doesn't gain traction, Democrats are going to vote for Crist!! I know 7 people right now who have already told me they are voting for Crist! They are Democrats who always vote for Democrats. But Meek doesn't appeal to them, therefore the lesser of two evils to some extend!

RUBIO MUST BE STOPPED, bottom line for many of us!

I would LOVE to see us get really organized again and PUSH back in a huge way, but I'm not holding my breath any longer. My head hurts from banging it against my wall!

Cynicism again, for sure!

what would have happened if Simpson was a Democrat or if a Democratic member of that commission had said the same thing. How quickly would he/she have been shown the door? Bet he/she would be gone by now (think Shirley Sherrod). Damn, I just don't understand. Trying really hard to back this president but sometimes I just don't get his logic.

43. He never should have been nominated to that Commission in the
first place. However, we do have him to thank for 'letting the cat out of the catfood bag'. The whole Commission needs to go. They are completely discredited by now. Although I suppose that doesn't bother anyone in DC. They are only there to get around the legislative process where members of Congress have to go on the record to state where they stand on an issue.

The sole purpose of this Commission is do an end run around that process after the election, and push through their 'recommendations'. If those include cuts to SS, I will no longer be a Democrat.
