12. bad news...
I just checked the NOAA maps. Earl has shifted WEST since last night. I distinctly remember the coast of Maine (I'm 3 miles inland) was in the yellow zone of tropical force winds. Now the coast is tan zone and well inland (most of the state) is mostly yellow. Gulp.

Moved it in the 1990s.

It's a big lighthouse. You really don't want to move it too often.

Otherwise it's been a beacon of hope since 1875.

15. John Smeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse would kick Earl's ass....
The grandaddy of all lighthouses, IMO.

Moved back to and reassembled on shore only because of degradation of the rocks, it was an asskicker of a design on an impossible site, the third of four built there.
